to think I should not be threatened with a ban for questioning the use of offensive language?

I am a member of a very heavily moderated website. Swearing is not allowed at all, threads are pulled regularly if people are mean to each other, not threads about threads are tolerated and you are not allowed to mention anything said before on the boards at all. All these things will result in deletion and warnings.

I have been a member for years (before mumsnet even). There was a particularly nasty thread that was allowed to go on for pages which ended with a woman referring to children with LDs as 'being tapped in the head'..

I started a seperate thread wanting to discuss the use of disabilist language on the site and asking why words like bitch, whore and piss were not allowed yet retard, mong and spaz were.

I was told that some people might think it was ok to use those words so they couldnt filter them out, it wouldnt be fair.

I continuned to question this in a firm but polite manner and have now discovered I have been sent a message telling me that my style of posting is offensive and I have been taken straight to a final warning!

Not that I give a toss, the site is crap. I guess I am taken aback that you can be pretty much threatened into silence if you dare question the mods on this HUGE and well known site.

Its an issue that means a lot to me. If it was a site on which everything went language wise I wouldnt have bothered. But on this prissy site where you cant say bugger - you can call something retarded or monged out with no bother.

I think its bollocks and makes me glad I have mumsnet to come and tell people to fuck off on. Grin

NotQuiteSoDesperate · 16/08/2011 23:06

Thanks pizzadelivery - have been getting very confused lately! My addiction to MN is growing fast though Grin

NotQuiteSoDesperate · 16/08/2011 23:07

Agree with you Maryz. My DS1 gets the word shouted at him often and it upsets him terribly Angry

AnyFucker · 16/08/2011 23:07

some peeps are "liking" my posts

I dunno of it is the huns, or MN'ers Grin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 16/08/2011 23:08

I'm now fucked off with the comments re - if you don't like it don't come here.

Surely challenging these accepted practices is VITAL for improved assimilation?

Oh no, seems like I have missed most of the fun. Just signed up though, changed my name as I don't want my real first name all over the place (what's up with that?)

There is one thread on free speech now, I am impressed!

I am surprised and really shocked that they think this sort of language is acceptable. I'd rather someone calls me a name than vulnerable people Angry

giraffesCantHulaHoop · 16/08/2011 23:13

Troll outing on NM now. someone is a "Lier"

NotQuiteSoDesperate · 16/08/2011 23:13

"Jo F(252)

Well the meaning if retard is slow, delayed development and progress.

This can be used against anything and anyone as it is a simple describing word!!!!!!!! Thats how you can decide!!!!!!

Thought that would be obvious!!

I assume this ignoramus would happily use the many racist adjectives because, you now, they're just describing words Hmm

It is all clear now.

Apparently people with disabilites just need to accept who they are (retards FFS??) and learn to stand up for themselves.

Hmm.

pizzadelivery · 16/08/2011 23:21

who set the vipers amongst the huns? Grin

This is going into Classics surely? Also hopefully distracted thefirstMrsDeVere from her backgarden saga/nightmare. Smile

Am worried that mumsnet will not ever be the same, did I actually see picture of smilies ironing and dragging hoovers by their arses?! There is no smiling in this house when those chores are done Envy

Though I do know Christmas is 25th of December without a ticker/countdown/saddo thingymajig.

InfestationofLannisters · 16/08/2011 23:21

Grin at "lier"
