to not like my mum saying to DD1...

How much does Nana love you? My DD then has to say, this much, and throw her arms wide.

Some context, we live along way from family. See my parents about 3 times a year for about a week, sometimes a bit more at a time. We go to their house once a year in the summer, this is when this started.

DD1 is 2.3 years and DD2 is 6 months.

It really annoyed me while we were there, but didn't say anything. Only there for a short time and couldn't be doing with the aftermath. But she started it again on skype today.

Would it bother you, or AIBU?

I think YABU. Why does it annoy you?! It's sweet.

Clarence15 · 15/08/2011 21:01

It wouldn't/doesn't bother me. Your mum is telling her granddaughter how much she loves her. It's nice.

buttonmoon78 · 15/08/2011 21:01

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest Smile

PeopleCallMeTricky · 15/08/2011 21:02

I don't think it's too bad. Would be worse if it was how much do you love nanna?

Kayano · 15/08/2011 21:02

what the actual f?

YABU

cjbartlett · 15/08/2011 21:02

It's just normal family behaviour
Are you jealous or something?

LuceyLasstic · 15/08/2011 21:02

god, some people must scour their lives to find things to complain about

AgentZigzag · 15/08/2011 21:02

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

Can't understand why it bothers you.

usualsuspect · 15/08/2011 21:04

I don't understand ,why it would annoy you Confused

don't you want your mum to love your children?

michglas · 15/08/2011 21:04

It is a very cute thing that relatives do - please, go try harder to find something to moan about.

Chica31 · 15/08/2011 21:04

OK, don't know why it bothers me. It just did.

thanks IABU

Isn't this just like the book - you know 'guess how much I love you' - read it to mine when they were little and they would do the 'this much' with arms widespread thing.

whackamole · 15/08/2011 21:04

YABU and unhinged.

lilolilmanchester · 15/08/2011 21:06

I think you need to explain why it bothers you so much, as others have said, it just seems like normal, loving family stuff ... but it obviously doesn't sit comfortably with you, perhaps it would help if you explained why?

Sidge · 15/08/2011 21:06

Huh??

You don't like the fact your mum likes to tell her granddaughter how much she loves her?

You are so BU.

MrsBananaGrabber · 15/08/2011 21:06

I don't get it, am I missing something.

( can't do confused smilie on I pad.....)

AgentZigzag · 15/08/2011 21:07

Ahhhh, if it's just a Random Something your parents do that irrationally pisses you off but you can't put your finger on why, then I can perfectly understand that Grin

needanewname · 15/08/2011 21:08

I do it to my DD's and it does come from the book guess how much I love you. Currently we are at the moon, the stars and bethlehem (and back again). Not sure how bethlehem came into it but it seems its here to stay!

usualsuspect · 15/08/2011 21:08

I probably randomly piss my grown up daughter off all the time Grin

I say all sorts off barmy stuff to my grandsons

purplepidjin · 15/08/2011 21:09

Isn't there a kids book about this?

That's her Christmas present sorted then Wink

babybythesea · 15/08/2011 21:10

We do this amoung the family as a whole - became a game when we were kids to try and think of the biggest number we could ('How much do I love you?' 'You love me ten.' 'Twenty' 'Ummm, fifty' etc etc). My cousin, a teenager with some street cred to preserve, now uses it as a short hand to admit he loves us! ('See you later then - fifty million'. And no-one, save for us lucky enough to be in the know, has any suspicion that he's just admitted to having affection for his older and deeply uncool cousin!!).

KAZAMM · 15/08/2011 21:10

It's just one of those things families do sometimes. Most likely a phase as well.

My friend and her DS used to sing to each other, can't remember what It's called or where from. 'i love you. You love me. We're a happy family'. I found it a bit nauseating but it didn't annoy me it was just their thing. YABU.
