to think it is perfectly normal to meet people from the internet in real life?

And that it is becoming an everyday in this day and age?

I have a friend coming to stop at my house in a few weeks time, she is bringing her children, and I have children as well. We met on the internet (on a different parenting forum) years ago, and have met up twice since. She is like my best friend, my best online friend anyway.

My mother is disgusted by this. She thinks that I am putting my whole family at risk, and that said friend will be a mass murderer and pinch my kids. Hmm

I have loads of friends who I have met online. They have yet to steal my kids.

I have met loads of 'strangers' but usually after chatting for a long time and I would class my best friends amongst this group now. We stay at each other's houses and share life events etc

Ah yes, one of my best (male) friends met his wife on the internet and they have two children. I think her head would explode if I ever told her that.

YANBU at all but remember times have changed. Your mother thinks like that as computers, internet, etc are all new to her generation. Long time ago now, my mother was once very concerned because we had our friends, a gay couple, to stay while our children were in the house! Confused Move on almost 20 years and she would be totally different as times have changed and she has learned. It's just another of those generational things.

Ask her if she'd ever had a penfriend, I think making friends on the internet is like a modern version of that.

Unless she's one of those crazy ladies who write to men on death row Hmm

I met both my husband and my bridesmaid online, plus I have 5 more friends I would regard as "close", all that I met online over the last 10 years.

My mother met her partner on the internet 9 years ago. She moved in with him after a week. They met at a service station on a Motorway.

I met DP online. He's now taking up space living here.
I've survived so far!! Grin

2 of my best friends are onliners due to distance.

Its just the modern way of meeting new people.

I met DP online about 5 years ago, after months of cybersex chatting on msn, we decided to meet.

I knew I was perfectly safe, however the "what if" part of my brain ensured that my best friend knew which hotel I was staying in, and she was to call me twice a day to check i was still alive that i was having a nice time.

It's normal to meet online these days, chatting online is pretty much the same as meeting a stranger in the pub except that when chatting online you do not need to become an instant lipreader and just nod and smile over the music Grin

i think it is a great way to meet people, if you have got to know someone very well it cements the relationship especially in support forums a friend of mine is going through a very difficult time and has made some really good close friends

i have made some internet friends and friends with benefits too, its the way things are now nothing wrong with it
