DS (3) and I went to get lunch from Greggs. We dont normally eat Greggs, it was an emergency.

Whilst waiting I told DS that I was buying him a sausage roll for lunch. He had spotted some nice pink cupcakes and wanted one of those instead. A long queue had formed behind us and and DS screamed over and over again "But I dont want a sausage roll, I dont want a sausage roll mummy, I DONT WANT A SAUSAGE ROLL MUMMY!"

Horrified looks from long queue that I was FORCING my DS to eat a Greggs sausage roll for lunch when clearly he wanted poached chicken, cherry tomatoes and other assorted salad items for lunch.

Was IBU to buy the sausage roll despite his screams or should I have cancelled it and gone to look for the poached chicken.

Name changed as I dont want this on my record.

Oh for crying out loud, sausage rolls arent that bad to have every now and then. Unless the queue was entirely peopled by MNers (which of course it couldn't have been because Greggs is too common to go into) I'm sure they weren't horrified, probably just curious. Anyone who doesn't understand that a 3 year old's head would be turned by a lovely cake is clearly daft anyway.

There is no such thing as a horrified queue at Greggs especially over a child screaming.

DS ate the sausage roll with glee after I bought it so I think I deserve a pat on the back for distracting a 'pink cake' tantrum.

In my mind the queue was horrified. I think I turned to them and in my moment of shame I said "oh how embarrassing, im forcing my son to eat a Greggs sausage roll." [embarrassed laughter]

I cant quite to sure if the looks I received in return were horror at what I was doing or annoyance because I frowned upon their sausage rolls.

Reminds me of the time I was in Tesco with DS2 aged about 2 1/2. Major tantrum in progress and I really needed to get the shop done (and v pregnant/tired at the time too).

My attempt at bribery failed utterly, and he shouted out very loudly "" I don't want a slice of chocolate cake! I want a salad sandwich!!

Q every parent in the shop swiveling round to stare.....

Occupants of shop were probably thinking what a peculiar kid you've got that doesn't like sausage rolls. That and 'ffs buy the kid a cake so that we can all buy lunch and get out of here....'

I doubt anyone was 'horrified' by you giving him a sausage roll, after all it was a queue of Greggs customers so presumably they don't think the stuff sold there is awful. They were probably annoyed/staring because he was making such a noise.

Yanbu, Greggs sausage rolls are delicious.

You should see the bairns on my local high street; wearing those hideous knitted bonnets threaded with gold ribbon, teething on a Greggs sausage roll and supping from a bottle of what seems to be builders strength tea.

No one would have batted an eyelid in the queue at our Greggs, in fact they would have thought you were abusing him if they saw him being fed poached chicken :D

It just so happens that because a sausage roll or pasty is cheaper than a well balanced meal, certain types of people opt to eat their every day, which we all know isn't good, even if it is delicious.

Maybe my mistake was not to offer him a choice between the steak bake and sausage roll. Its always best to offer a choice of two things isnt it?

I had a steak bake today from greggs, i sent a colleague for it, in error she gave me the corned beef and onion one it was rank and after a bite discovering such i demanded my steak bake which i devoured, i have to conclude that actually a hot sausage rol is far nicer from greggs as todaty the steak bakes were a bit poo. I think your child is a bit weird
