to think kettles that taste/smell of plastic are not fit for purpose

I have for the 2nd time in a year managed to purchase a lemon kettle which reeks of plastic when boiled, and continues to do so after several boils.

Careful perusal of the manual indicates that this seems to be expected and if it continues to boil with bicarbonate of soda.

Seems like utter bollocks to me.
AIBU to think kettles should be fresh after at most one rinse ?

Dunno but our old kettle used to smell of b.o after it boiled. I thought it was me and got quite paranoid until I worked it out!
