Are you scared of what might happen tonight? How can it be controlled? I am more than a bit scared of what will come from all of this.

Just sent my gf back to London after a week visit :( so worried for her.

msbuggywinkle · 09/08/2011 15:59

Yes. Mainly for my friends, most of whom live in Toxteth and have small children who were scared last night. One friend has a newborn and is right in amongst it, another is pregnant and her car was set alight last night.

I wasn't worried but now I am because I have just been evacuated from Nottingham off the beach as riots are starting. Had my ds and his friend with me.

shelfy74 · 09/08/2011 16:02

I'm in Leicester and work with the police, have several friends who are police. Rumour is that trouble is planned for Friday but all leave has been cancelled, no uniformed officers allowed to go home at end of shift and others called in early. There will be a massive police presence in Leicester tonight.

simpson · 09/08/2011 16:02

I am worried Sad

I leave near Uxbridge and reports are that there will be trouble in Hayes (nearby) Shops closed at 3.

I am far away enough from the shops etc to hopefully be ok

Am a LP (with a 5&3 yr old) who doesn't drive....

TheOriginalFAB · 09/08/2011 16:07

I am apprehensive as I don't think anyone can say it won't happen in their area.

PhilipJFry · 09/08/2011 16:45

Praying that nothing starts up in Manchester. I know that there's not been anything there yet but there's a hell of a lot of crime and poverty here already and it's a big city. I can just see it happening. Hope everyone is safe tonight.

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 09/08/2011 17:21

I'm in Watford, dullest place ever I know, but there's rumours that some wankers people have started up here although this is only what I've heard via FB so gawd knows if it's true. Hope it isn't Sad I live 50 yards from main road ni and out of town and 5 minutes from train station.

MoominsAreScary · 09/08/2011 17:34

I live in Nottingham and they only information I can find as to what's happening here is on fb and thats just what people have heard noone seems to be able to confirm what's going on

MoominsAreScary · 09/08/2011 17:35

Except for some minor incidents last night in st anns

KangarooCaught · 09/08/2011 17:44

No, am not unduly worried and find the reporting slightly hysterical and fanning the flames. Father in west London (works Camden, lives nr Ealing), ILs Nottingham, brother in Brum. As long as staying away from central shopping areas early evening onwards should be ok. Police seem very determined to be on top of it tonight. Appreciate that if you/family are in the police or have premises in city centres you might feel very differently.

LauLauLemon · 09/08/2011 17:53

I'm scared and I'm in Newport South Wales. All it takes is one bright idea and the estate gangs will start looting with no cause or reason.

MooncupGoddess · 09/08/2011 17:53

Agree with Kangaroo, I think the worst is over now. All the closing down/boarding up of shops etc is clearly a preventative measure and the police are everywhere today. The looters are young and unarmed and have probably had enough excitement for a while, especially as they'll be seeing a lot of their friends arrested and remanded in custody.

However - I do worry that now they've seen how easy it is, there will be more smaller riots over the next few weeks/months.

NoobyNoob · 09/08/2011 17:55

I'm so scared of this, and I don't live in or near London or any of the other areas.

I hope you're all safe

Ephiny · 09/08/2011 18:05

Not too worried personally, am in London but I think we're far away from the main shopping areas that it's unlikely there'd be trouble in our street, so as long as we stay put I expect we'll be OK. I will feel happier when DP is home from work though.

More angry than scared to be honest.

MissBetsyTrotwood · 09/08/2011 18:14

I'm concerned but not anxious yet. We're in Hackney but right out by the Marshes so less likely to see trouble. Had a noisy night - helicopters, kids out into the early hours on the street, a few loud bangs, smell of burning etc but not absolutely immediate.

My main worry tonight is that DH has just had to take DS1 into hospital as he's been badly bitten by a cat. I just hope they're not kept too late and end up having to walk home through scary stuff.

xmyboys · 09/08/2011 18:20

We are in london above a business :(

Have my escape route planned just in case of fire! (bloody hell)

Hermoine did you see anything going on or were they evacuating as a precaution?

GypsyMoth · 09/08/2011 18:25

desperately......friend works in watford, cars from dealerships (mercs and jags) have been taken to safety on trailers!

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/08/2011 18:28

Does anyone else think that the police just may have it in hand now?
With the huge increase in policing announced for today, plus all the arrests they've made, and also all the intelligence they must have by now, hopefully they will be on top of it.
I'm so many miles from any trouble in the Highlands here, I can't imagine what it must feel like being scared in your own homes.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for everybody stuck in the middle.

BustySinclair · 09/08/2011 18:32

Does anyone else think that the police just may have it in hand now?

my OH has been told he has to do 12 hour duties until at least Monday :(

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/08/2011 18:38

LauLauLemon I'm on one of those estates and can safely say that I have no fear anyone looting as the other residents all already have flatscreen TVs Wink
Plus we have no shops to loot anymore, anyway

ledkr · 09/08/2011 18:38

So has mine busty and possibly have his leave cancelled for Friday so i will have to go away on my own with the dd's Sad We arent even that close to London. Its nothing compared to what others are going thru.

ledkr · 09/08/2011 18:40

I feel scared. Scared that people have now worked out how limited we are to deal with this type of behaviour,i wonder what will happen next.

Burningcandlesatbothends · 09/08/2011 18:43
