to ask if anyone lives near Upton Park? And WWYD?

I'm totally torn... tomorrow eve my boys (8 and 9) are due to go to their first football match and are super excited. However. Due to all the rioting in London I am now thinking it's a bad idea to take them into the capital, especially to an evening football match where police will be present and may be targeted. I have no idea if Upton Park is a rioting area, and wondered if anyone could advise me on whether it's safe for them to go. AIBU to even consider this?

I would say don't go as it is very near to areas that are volatile in the East End and football matches are an easy target for idiots to gather at. (I don't mean the football fans are idiots but hooligans attach themselves to football clubs and make it difficult for real fans).

it's not that near but you need to see what happens tomorrow. someone we know had taken his nephew to first footie match in tottenham on saturday and really regretted it...

Lifelong Tottenham fan here.

They have been saying on official channels that they are looking at the possibility of the match being postponed.

Dont go - there will be plenty more opportunities for football matches.

Sit and watch a dvd as a family and eat popcorn instead - much safer and happier option

In all likelihood the match won't go ahead: they need a minimum amount of police officers to Man the football matches; they will probably be deployed elsewhere.

West Ham have postponed their game they were asked to by the police just been on Sky News.

All London football clubs have been asked to cancel matches tomorrow.

Match is definitely off. As will be the Charlton game and Crystal Palace -v- Crawley. Down here we have a Carling Cup fixture that might be at risk because our police are being sent up to reinforce the Met.
