I owe you a colander because I used yours to clean the bark from the lizards tank. I mean WTF? I'm gobsmacked, he's doing some unbelievable stuff recently, he's normally so well behaved. :(

SarahStratton · 08/08/2011 16:26

Seriously? People make home brew in the washing machine or wheelie bins?

worraliberty · 08/08/2011 16:27

I don't know OP but I've seen stranger things Confused

So what was the unbelievable stuff he's done recently?

loopylou6 · 08/08/2011 16:28

But the bark has had lizard poo and crickets all over it, every time I'm eating my mash/spaghetti I'll be thinking about it Grin

evenlessnarkypuffin · 08/08/2011 16:29

On the plus side, now the lizard tank cleaning kit includes a colander, he's unlikely to do it again.

P.S. Make sure the new one is a different colour

LITTLEGEEK · 08/08/2011 16:31

I thought you posted this in AIBU to be tounge in cheek not seriously pissed off. 12 year old cleaning tank without being asked shows responsibility. Choose a nice new colander and remind him about it when he's a parent and his little darlings do something similar to him. Smile

suzikettles · 08/08/2011 16:32

The potatoes probably had poo and insects all over them at one time or another. Ditto the wheat used to make the spaghetti.

Sorry. Have I spoiled your dinner? Grin

aleene · 08/08/2011 16:32

SS - I am sure I heard a report that there was a shortage of compost bins in somewhere like the Scottish islands because they are the perfect size for making home bew Grin

ChumleeIsMyHomeboy · 08/08/2011 16:32

Just wash it! Wash it in hot water. Bleach it. Put it through the dishwasher. Pour boiling water through it. Bleach it again. Do something - anything but FGS tell me you're not going to buy a new colander just because it's had a bit of bark in it? Is lizard sweat deadly poisonous or what? I'd have just washed it once in the normal washing up ffs and given thanks that my son was actually looking after his pet!

Therefore - YABVVVVVU

SiamoFottuti · 08/08/2011 16:32

Boiling water, soap. Job done, find something real to complain about.

loopylou6 · 08/08/2011 16:33

Good call even Grin

Ok ok I've been suitably pasted now I'll buy the new colander myself Wink

stealthsquiggle · 08/08/2011 16:33

Can someone explain the home brew in washing machine process? I am intruiged.

not really sorry to say, OP, I have used and will continue to use colander to wash things from fish/lizard tanks - well washed (soak in some milton and then into dishwasher), I fail to see the issue Confused

Whatmeworry · 08/08/2011 16:33

SS - obviously you take the washing/rubbish/fish out first :o

worraliberty · 08/08/2011 16:34
SarahStratton · 08/08/2011 16:34

I wash the animal bowls up in the washing up bowl. Should I be boiling them or something?

That includes Mortimer's bashed up, shitty sandwich tin he eats out of Confused

JanMorrow · 08/08/2011 16:35

I think he was being fairly enterprising myself! And he owned up to it so I don't really think he's done anything all that naughty!

loopylou6 · 08/08/2011 16:35

Well what can I say, I'm very anal about stuff like that...

OP posts:
DizzyKipper · 08/08/2011 16:37

At least he's cleaning out his pets - always a good thing (though not with the right equipment!). Personally I'd be more pleased that he was being responsible and taking care of his lizards than worrying about a colander, I'd also then take him out to get him the right equipment for cleaning out his pets. But then I can see why this would be frustrating if it's just another example in a series of such behaviour.

loopylou6 · 08/08/2011 16:38

Even if it sounds Daft to you lot, he knows that he wouldn't be allowed to use dish stuff to clean out his pet, that's why it pissed me off.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 08/08/2011 16:39

Yes, but do you actually use the functionality of the washing machine in the brewing process or is it jsut a handy container?

Suncottage · 08/08/2011 16:39

My ExDH used my Le Creuset casserole dish to decant gloss paint into.

Now that is abusing kitchenware

[still Angry after all these years]

evenlessnarkypuffin · 08/08/2011 16:40

I understand Loupylou6. Logic says that it would be ok having been boiled and bleached, but I wouldn't be reusing my spatula if DH had used it to clean the drain cover outside the kitchen window.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 08/08/2011 16:40

It could be worse - when we were still in the romantic, courting phase, dh used my toothbrush to clean the element on the gas fire in his flat - but like your son, he did own up and buy me a new one. My best friend used her dh's toothbrush to clean the loo, and didn't tell him or replace it, after they'd had a big row! ConfusedShock

evenlessnarkypuffin · 08/08/2011 16:40

Shock at Le Creuset abuse

stealthsquiggle · 08/08/2011 16:41

Suncottage I hope you cited that in the divorce (and got a new casserole disk)

DizzyKipper · 08/08/2011 16:41

I don't think it's daft, some of us are just naturally more permissive about such things than others (and have a lizard myself - though I don't use colanders when cleaning our her viv). I think it's quite understandable to find it off putting - there's a small risk of salmonella (unlikely but there), plus faecal matter, plus insects which will probably have been carrying parasites that have crawled all over the bark - I'd be a bit put off reusing the colander too and would have to be VERY over the top whilst cleaning it again.
