I am mid to late 20's.About 5'4 and size 10-12.I'm doing 'a runner' with my man.Noone will be there apart from 2 randon witnesses off the street!
I have dc and live middle of nowhere, unable to get to shops to need to order online!
I will look silly in a huge dress but want something that I can wear again.
I was thinking of getting an organza shawl or faux fur bolero to go over to look less skimpy.

Please be honest!Btw I know wedding threads are nauseating so I apologise in advance!

ThanksSmile

Haven't read the whole thread but if you are 5ft 4 OP you will likely need to take the dress up cos the model is probably a fair bit taller and it's down to the floor on her. Lovely dress though.

Dress is really beautiful! Totally agree with 80smum - I know I would never be able to pull it off, but if you can you really should go for it and I am very jealous! Have a fantastic day!

Burningcandlesatbothends · 09/08/2011 18:39

Thanks again everyone.Still in two minds but will as promised send pics on this site in the end!thankyou

OP, it's a lovely dress, but as pointed out by all the other posters, it will be very unforgiving, unless you are of catwalk model proportions and are cool with no underwear whatsoever.

As for wearing it again? On hols on a night out - only scenarios I can think of.

However, if you have the figure and it feels great on, go for it.

LittleBoSqueak · 09/08/2011 22:03

Love the Coast and Monsoon dresses!

Update us OP!

rockinhippy · 09/08/2011 22:22

at 5'4 & size 10/12 if you are in proportion, then you are not to short to carry that dress off - heels will help

Though I would go with a good quality lace wrap or shrug, or even longline cardi over the others, its more current & will bring the dress up to the occasion

have a lovely day

A1980 · 09/08/2011 22:57

I don't like that it is completely backless. Bare flesh is actually quite boring to look at. I'd get one with a nicer back.

iscream · 10/08/2011 00:41

I like the dress, but am skeptical on it looking right if you are marrying in a registry office. Also, if you would like to wear it again, what occasion would you wear it to? I do like it. Be perfect for a marriage on a beautiful tropical evening somewhere.

If you do go for your first choice, a sheer wrap would be nice without distracting from the crystal trim.

aurynne · 10/08/2011 04:33

I don't like it, it looks like a tacky nightdress to me. Also, it would not work at all in a woman of normal weight/height, as you are. You'd need to be anorexic to pull this one off, as the slightest curve/bump will show.

sundayrose10 · 10/08/2011 05:38

I absolutely love it, OP. I actually think you need to have a bit of a body to make it hot. A size 12/14 is perfect for it. I'm skinny as a rack and it would not look good on me. This dress needs curves!

Enjoy your day. It really is a nice dress.

FreudianSlipper · 10/08/2011 08:07

its beautiful

with a little faux fur shrug it will look fabulous

enjoy your day aww now this is romantic its just the two of you

rockinhippy · 10/08/2011 08:52

I think its beautiful too, not something everyone can carry off, nor would dare to wear, but if YOU like it, ignore the doubters & go for it Wink

HerdOfTinyElephants · 10/08/2011 09:04

I agree that if you are a good 5-6 inches shorter than the model you may find that the back is revealing a bit more arse crack than you would like (and even the tallest heels in the world will do nothing for that as they won't lengthen your body). I wouldn't buy it without trying it on first.

Burningcandlesatbothends · 10/08/2011 09:56

Thankyou!I can order it and try it on and if doesn't fit/suit then can send back as long as in perfect condition with tags!I might post pics on here and ask for your very very honest opinions (if I'm braveGrin)

There's been some amazing suggestions on here-thankyou.
Also a Monsoon wedding dress on Ebay that Izzy kindly sent me earlier on this thread

has a reserve price of £120 so if the backless number is a no no then I'll order the monsoon and save half the cash!

Sundayrose-that's refreshing to read!I only have a couple of weeks of diet/exercising and I'm rubbish.I have 2 baby boys and not one min to myself ever(oh is away working).Any tips/advice on how to work out while you have young dc around your ankles would be very appreciated and welcomedGrin

OP posts:
rockinhippy · 10/08/2011 10:18

herdof it doesn't work that way - the dress worn by the model would have been specially lengthened so that it fit properly for the shoot - production are likely to be cut to fit 5'6" maybe 5'7" so the back length should be fine - it will be more modest - production garments re always cut differently to the photo samples (its my profession so I know this for fact)

GhoulLasher · 10/08/2011 10:42

Of course she can wear undies! Flesh coloured ones.

I like it a lot....I can't work out why the model has clumpy looking black shoes on wwith it though! Shock

GhoulLasher · 10/08/2011 10:43

I agree about needng a figure to wear it...hips and bottom look great in a dress like that. If you're column-like then it tends to look meh.

Burningcandlesatbothends · 10/08/2011 16:05

Never noticed balck clumpy shoes GhoulGrin

Sundayrose-just saw your profile pics and you look like a fashion model if that's you!I'm veryEnvy Smile

I'm afraid I don't like the original dress either OP - as others have said a bit too nightie/lingerie looking. And it did look see-through to some extent. Like it had shortened lining or whatever - there did seem to be something showing through from underneath.
But, at the end of the day it's your choice and as long as you have a fantastic day that's all that matters Smile

Good luck!!

thebird · 10/08/2011 16:39

Good Luck to you OP. My DP and I are doing the same and eloping next week with our DDs to tow! I sympathize with you trying to choose a dress without being able to ask friends or family for their opinion. I found it agony - and of course should have asked the MNers for their opinions but never thought to. In the end I asked my DD (4) and she chose between a and b...I will blame her if its not right.

Some more suggestions here.....I opted for the Monsoon Winsta Dress which I got half price!

Salmotrutta-thanks for your opinion. It's to see how many people like it and how many don't.If you ask people you know in RL you worry that they'll say anything-whereas mn's are honestSmileand thanks for wishing me luck!

Thebird-thankyou for the link. The little white dresses look lovely and not 'trying too hard'.Good to have other things to look at as it's getting close.I'm so last minute! And lastly congratulations in advance for your day! That's lovely.Your winsta dress looks lovely-I may in the end copyGrin

thebird Really cute dress! That dress is the sort of thing I'd go for. You could wear a hat with a tiny veil if you like retro looks.
Burningcandlesatbothends, I hope you find the perfect dress for the day!
