I am mid to late 20's.About 5'4 and size 10-12.I'm doing 'a runner' with my man.Noone will be there apart from 2 randon witnesses off the street!
I have dc and live middle of nowhere, unable to get to shops to need to order online!
I will look silly in a huge dress but want something that I can wear again.
I was thinking of getting an organza shawl or faux fur bolero to go over to look less skimpy.

Please be honest!Btw I know wedding threads are nauseating so I apologise in advance!

ThanksSmile

I'd second the comment about it being a bit nightdress-y.

Also at 5 foot 4 I'd worry about my bum crack being on show!

eurochick · 07/08/2011 16:44

I love the front. The back is v low though. I am pretty body confident but I wouldn't have been comfortable in it for my wedding. Remember the two randoms off the street will be staring at your back! And you couldn't wear underwear.

Sarsaparilllla · 07/08/2011 16:45

I like the front but not that it's totally backless, have you looked in Monsoon? They have some similar wedding dresses

roguepixie · 07/08/2011 16:45

Love it. Absolutely stunning. I would go for the wrap rather than the bolero.

Enjoy your day.

maypole1 · 07/08/2011 16:48

Really nice but size 10 and under really

HeavyHeidi · 07/08/2011 16:51

Don't like it at all. Looks like a night-dress from front. And the back - if you want a dress you can wear again later, there are not too many occasions for this one.
Plus, as mentioned, the model is probably 6 foot, so the dress will be even more backless on you.

tethersend · 07/08/2011 16:55

I do not like it, sorry. I agree that to cover it up with a bolero is to defeat the object of the dress.

I too think coast has some nice stuff- this for example.

Also, Damsel in a Dress and Biba have some nice stuff.

thursday · 07/08/2011 16:56

doesnt look very forgiving, if you've got the body for it then go for it. personally, i think the total backless look is too much and to wear a bolero would defeat the purpose of the dress.

tyler80 · 07/08/2011 16:59

I'd say also that if you really want a dress that you can wear again don't go for white.

I think you'll struggle to find any white long dress that could be worn at an occasion other than your own wedding.

BikeRunSki · 07/08/2011 17:04

My sister got married in a similar dress (actually was a Calvin Klein nightie) and wore no underwear.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/08/2011 17:07

Its a bit TOWIE and I don't think thats a good thing for a wedding dress. Also you say you want to wear it again and am not sure how likely that would be with that dress.

Do you definitely want a long white dress? As do think you'll find it hard to wear it again as will always look a little weddingy.

MrsCampbellBlack · 07/08/2011 17:07

Oh totally cross-posted with tyler80 Smile

When I look at dresses, I look at them on the model and them 'imperfect' them as I imagine them on me. The dress doesn't look good on the model, in my opinion. There's no cut to it, no style, it's just 'there' and the backless view just looks as if they ran out of material at the crucial point. If there were any saving graces for this dress, I'd say that on somebody supremely tall and willowy, it would be acceptable but nothing special. I don't think it will ever look nice, not on anybody. The model doesn't even smile, she obviously doesn't like it either...

You have nice proportions by the sound of it, there are some lovely dresses out there that would look absolutely beautiful on you.

JodieHarsh · 07/08/2011 17:13

Hmmmm. I think you need to be a complete coat-hanger to wear that, with the sort of body that's basically invisible.

If you feel great it in though, then blimey what a treat for your husband!

Congratulations and the best of bestest wishes for the future!

Burningcandlesatbothends · 07/08/2011 17:16

Thankyou everyone! It's in 3 weeks and I'm going on the strictest diet tomorrow. Thanks also for the links.I would never have thought of Coast and the damsel in a dress link is lovely-looks much more flattering and still kind of in price budget.

I'm wearing very high heels by Dune footwear.I wish I was 5'9!I know Amanda Holden modelled it and she's not tall but she's teeny weeny(I was her size pre-dc grrrGrin)

Euphemia-I remember seeing the Robino thread in mumsnet classics!Wonderful!Great idea I'm actually tempted lol Grin

Whatever I choose I will post pics on here and thankyou for helping me to decideSmile

Love the dress, but as others have said you couldn't wear anything underneath it, you would even see the outline of a thong.

You would need perfect breasts too as you couldn't wear a bra.

The back is a tad low on a 6ft model, and on you it may well be you be able to see the crack of your arse, a wrap be better than a fake fur shawl.

I don't like the coast dress linked to above its more for Ladies Day at the races.

Burningcandlesatbothends · 07/08/2011 17:20

Yes monsoon is a great idea-looking right now.
Thats good advice Lyingwitch-I need tothink in that way.
Thankyou Jodieharsh and everyone else for replies and the congrats

Well, you're having an elopment (ace) and you want to wear it again. So if I were you I'd think "really ace day dress". How about http://www.allsaints.com/women/dresses/canicity-dress/ochre/wdj257-1931 ochre number from allsaints?

I love the drape on the dress you showed, it's really simple and nice. But unless you're 6ft tall with small self-supporting tits, I'm not so sure it'll suit. And you will never wear it again.

I actually think short and coloured would be more appropriate and wearable again than long and white.

Anyway, post whatever you do wear I'm sure it will be fab, and have fun on the day! Grin

SoupDragon · 07/08/2011 17:24

In all honesty, I don't think you are tall enough to pull it off. Unfortunately.

Phase Eight?

maypole1 · 07/08/2011 17:25

You get the dress dyed

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/08/2011 17:29

BurningCandles... If you like Amanda Holden's style, see if you can find some dresses that she's worn to get an idea of what that style would look like on you... I think she's about 5ft4" or thereabouts?

I'm so glad that you're going to have a look around... can't wait to see what you choose. Congrats! Grin

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 07/08/2011 17:30

Unless you're minimum 5'9" and getting married in the Little Chapel at midnight, IMO it's a tacky dress for a wedding.

Obviously, it's difficult to imagine what anyone's figure looks like based only on height/weight; do you have any particularly good features - shoulders, waist, legs, etc, - that you would like to show off?

A bias cut dress flatters every figure shape and if you want a dress that you can wear again I'd suggest an off-white or cream mid-calf number, unless you have cankles in which case go for a full length number.

BTW the cream Biba marabou feather stole in the link given by tethers is a MUST! Snap one up now before I do, and if you decide on a white dress, carry a small bouquet of cream roses matched to the colour of the stole.

Off to see if I can find a dress that will do you justice on your big day and be pressed into service for other occasions.

Sidge · 07/08/2011 17:36

It's lovely but boring. Like a WAGs nightie.

Also, and I say this with the greatest of respect as I'm a shortie as well, but I think you need to be taller to carry of that 'column' style.

honeyandsalt · 07/08/2011 17:43

Anyway, never mind the dress, what about the necklace?!
