I am mid to late 20's.About 5'4 and size 10-12.I'm doing 'a runner' with my man.Noone will be there apart from 2 randon witnesses off the street!
I have dc and live middle of nowhere, unable to get to shops to need to order online!
I will look silly in a huge dress but want something that I can wear again.
I was thinking of getting an organza shawl or faux fur bolero to go over to look less skimpy.

Please be honest!Btw I know wedding threads are nauseating so I apologise in advance!

ThanksSmile

IMO this Monsoon number looks as it would cover a multiude of sins and would be flattering for your size/height.

Also IMO, a tasteful lace dress is demure, romantic, and seductive. This particular number is a classic design, and if it was shortened after your wedding it could be worn to numerous events for some years to come.

As a bonus, this dress was bought new and is unworn. I could see this dress teamed with the Biba marabou stole and a contrasting bouquet.

honeyandsalt · 07/08/2011 17:45

And the jacket? Grin

nicciaa · 07/08/2011 17:49

I think its totally stunning, I wish you all the luck to wear it, and I hope you have wonderful day xxx

flyingspaghettimonster · 07/08/2011 17:54

Good luck for your wedding! I don't like the dress, but then I am a meringue kinda gal so my opinion wouldn't mean much :) I do think it would be okay if you have very high heels...

exoticfruits · 07/08/2011 17:57

I wouldn't have the figure to wear it, but it is lovely. Sounds a great way to have a wedding-good luck.

megkat · 07/08/2011 17:59

Oh my word that is beautiful.

As long as you have the confidence to pull it off, that is, and will you really go somewhere you can wear that again??

Enjoy your day x

Burningcandlesatbothends · 07/08/2011 18:06

Izzy-arrggghhh!Just fell in love with that dress and it ran out of time! How's my luck.It had the kind of 'look' I was looking for but also reminded me of a Kate Moss kind of wedding dress.OH saw it and said I need to look if it's relisted.Going to search now.Thankyou

Honey-love that jacket wish it had an extra decimal missing from it thoughSadGrinthankyou for the replies I'm looking into all of the links.Including All Saints and Phase Eight(which I would never have thought of)

Thanks everyoneSmileagain.Getting onto ebay now.

I think that the ebay dress looks much classier.

Backless=tacky imo.

SoupDragon · 07/08/2011 18:14

Email the seller and ask what the reserve was.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 07/08/2011 18:14

I can't believe how many lovely brand new Monsoon dresses I've found on eBay at bargain basement prices!!

Here's another that looks to be a flattering style: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Monsoon-Donella-Cream-Maxi-Dress-size-12-BNWT-200-/150636199989?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&hash=item23129e0035

I saved the other one to my watch list and I'm going back to see it's been automatically relisted again. In the meantime, put Monsoon dress 12 cream into eBay search, select 'ending soonest' and you'll find a couple of dresses on the first 2 pages that I think will catch your eye.

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 18:16

ooooh this is all making me want to get married again!

Burningcandlesatbothends · 07/08/2011 18:19

I just emailed the seller asking the reserve price and if they're relistingSmile
Thanks

Cheers for yet another unannounced upgrade mumsnet - how to lose a carefully considered response in a blink of an eye.

This dress owes more than a nod to your original choice but it has a higher back and more strap interest. It may look quite plain in comparison with the first dress I found, but I'm familiar with the material of this dress and the seller's photos don't do it justice.

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160630107157&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Unlike the dress you liked that was unsold, this seller has other items listed and you could 'ask a question' on one of those to see if they intend to relist this dress IYSWIM. At not much more than £15 you may consider that this dress is worth having in your wardrobe for assorted occasions enabling you to save your wedding dress to be treasured/handed down or bought out for high days and holidays.

lowra · 07/08/2011 18:43

I agree with alot of the other posters, I think you would need to have a REALLY slim figure to look good in this dress off. I am a size 10-12 and don't think I could pull it off.

Hope you have a lovely day whatever you decide to wear.

honeyandsalt · 07/08/2011 18:46

Not long 'til your wedding, I'd ask them to relist as a buy it now if you're desperate for the lace number!

Booo at the lack of leather jacket budget. I'd love for someone to fulful my wedding dress+ leather jacket style fantasy Grin.

I wore Monsoon (sale!!) for my wedding btw, and it was ace. Check out their current collection too

Kallista · 07/08/2011 19:10

Your original choice of dress is lovely but i think it requires you to be v tall, also it's like an evening dress. I agree monsoon always have a good wedding collection; there was a lovely beaded white mini shift with gauze sleeves last season - that kind of thing can be worn in a nice bar / restaurant as well.
Anyway - lucky you getting married - have a good time :-)

supercal · 07/08/2011 19:23

I'm glad you're looking for alternatives.

I think wearing a wedding dress that prohibits you from wearing a bra (or corset) on your wedding day is a big no-no in my opinion Smile

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 07/08/2011 20:00

I promise this is the last and I've only added it because it looks remarkably like the Kika model in Monsoon's current collection as per honey's link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Monsoon-Dress-wedding-bridal-silk-ivory-10-12-/270790900620?pt=UK_Wedding_Clothing&hash=item3f0c653b8c

I have SO changed my mind about the Biba marbou stole after reading the 1 review and discovering that it is only 30cm wide, which is more like a scarf than a wrap.

When the chosen dress in your possession, look on good old eBay for a matching organza wrap as suggested by Thumbwitch. They're not much more than a fiver and if you buy another in a contrasting colour (olive/dark green, mauve, or whatever) the dress will look entirely different if you wear it on another occasion.

The insufferably arrogant Kate Moss wedding dress you mentioned is cut on the bias which flatters any figure. I love 1930's bias cut evening dresses and, if buying for myself, I'd go for the Donella because it would be more flattering for my body shape than the Romy,

I do hope you'll be back with your final choice and, whatever you choose to wear, I wish you both a memorable day and a long and happy life together.

supercal · 07/08/2011 20:22

I like that dress, izzy.

There are some wonderful suggestions on here.

Burningcandlesatbothends · 08/08/2011 20:15

Izzy-thankyou again.I am now watching various monsoon dresses on ebay and waiting for the other seller to get back to me re the dress you first linked to me!In the meantime keeping the gorgeous coutue one up my sleeve.

SmethwickBelle · 08/08/2011 20:29

It is bloody beautiful but not sure you will get a second wear out of it - it is quite a statement dress, in part due to its classiness (and total lack of back). I'm a 10-12 and 5 foot 7 and wouldn't risk it as it looks fairly sheer, and so that means absolutely no underwear and my boobs and bum would not be up to the challenge.

I think with something that gorgeous if you are going to go for it just go for it, best foot forward and embrace the moment.... and to hell with a wrap or shrug etc... Grin

yummybutterbiscuit · 08/08/2011 21:49

I'm a size 10-12 (well probs just size 12 but putting 10-12 makes me feel better...) and I don't think it would suit me at all, far too many lumps and bumps, and I don't think my boobs could handle being braless.

So unless you have a VERY toned body at size 10-12 I dont think it will work.

LolaRennt · 08/08/2011 21:53

Congrats on your wedding!

Personally (I'm very shy though) I'd spend the whole day worrying about my lumps and bumps showing and about being quite so on show. If you are pretty confident in your own skin I bet you'll really enjoy it and be absolutely beautiful.

gallicgirl · 08/08/2011 22:03

You've all posted links to lovely dresses. I shall be sure to ask you all when if I ever elope.

I hope you have a fabulous day OP.
