Why am I so repulsed by this? I mean, do they change the water in the tank between victims customers?

Am I the only person who isn't that excited by the idea of a live creature eating my dead skin?

YADNBU! I am utterly perplexed by this revolting trend - just cannot see the attraction at all! Confused

SharperSeven · 05/08/2011 23:55

I would like to try it

Birdsgottafly · 05/08/2011 23:55

They don't have to change the water because the fish eat everything, including their own poo, that is in the water.

I love fish pedicures, but then i dive and snorkle and like feeding fish underwater when on holiday.

hiddenhome · 05/08/2011 23:55

It's cruel to the fish and probably not that hygienic despite the shops claiming that they keep the water clean.

Living animals shouldn't be used as part of some stupid 'beauty' fad.

southeastastra · 05/08/2011 23:57

it's rank

Birdsgottafly · 05/08/2011 23:58

You could debate wether it is possible to be cruel to a creature with a ten second memory, how would they know?

Nope, it's bogging. Sitting in your dirt, the previous customers' dirt and the fish poo? No ta.

Pelagia · 06/08/2011 00:00

I think I would like the sensation of it, but its everywhere now, its gone from luxury treat to David Brent. I just think its mean to keep a load of fish in a dull dull tank in a dull dull town to nibble the feet of dull dull people. Surely they are meant to be exotic fish darting about in a beautiful sea of shimmering coral? Not cooped up in Slough or wherever.

hiddenhome · 06/08/2011 00:01

It is cruel to keep them like this because it affects their health. They are repeatedly exposed to toxic chemicals, are prevented from feeding properly - and no, they don't live on skin cells - and do not have the opportunity to live in a suitable environment.

I've been keeping fish for 30 years and the way these animals are treated is just wrong.

Sandalwood · 06/08/2011 00:02

yanbu. Revolting.
Isn't it banned in some parts of America because of hygiene/cruelty issues.

blowthewindsoutherly · 06/08/2011 00:02

Fish poo in the water you say birdsgotafly?

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 06/08/2011 00:02

The fish don't want to do it. They're hungry and forced to try and feed on whatever is available. They obtain no nutritional benefit from rasping at the skin.

It's a pathetic fad.

hiddenhome · 06/08/2011 00:03

Yes, it has been banned in some parts of the US.

Birdsgottafly · 06/08/2011 00:03

People don't seem to realise that even in the ocean, fish stick to their own little bit to swim in, otherwise they get eaten by bigger fish.

They often have less space in their natural habitat, than they do in a tank.

The fish that travel are doing so under stressful conditions, as fast as they can, so they don't get eaten.

Is it any better than a Scholl foot file?

hiddenhome · 06/08/2011 00:06

scroll down to the bottom

They don't eat the skin. They are supposed to be fed on a proper diet, but most places starve them so that they display this behaviour. In the wild, the rasping behaviour would enable them to feed, but they obtain no nutritional benefits from peoples' feet.

It's totally unneccessary.

Ah yes, lets do copy America, ban fish pedicures but bring in the death sentance and sterilisation for those with LD's.

You people can't even feel any compassion for some living creatures?

I hope you all get to live in your own waste one day.

RandomMess · 06/08/2011 00:12

I think it's only a matter of time before animal welfare do something about this, it's completel unregulated at the moment Sad
