Why am I so repulsed by this? I mean, do they change the water in the tank between victims customers?

Am I the only person who isn't that excited by the idea of a live creature eating my dead skin?

All fish live in their own waste?

I partially agree, i only go to the large places that you have to wash your feet first then go into the water and are endorsed by animal welfare organisations.

Birdsgottafly · 06/08/2011 00:16

The fish wouldn't last long if there were polar bears about.

I did'nt realise they starve the fish, Now I feel terrible.
Only went once but won't again now I know that.

blowthewindsoutherly · 06/08/2011 00:17

True birdsgottafly.

I can't afford a fancy fish pedicure anyway, I though the ped-egg was all the rage on here but clearly I'm out of touch.

I DO have a dog though - so, a tube of primula on my old cracked heels and wer're away.

MMMmmm, yum.

I don't know, there's just something about the idea of being eaten alive that still doesn't appeal...

well I hate feet, hate anything or anybody near my feet, and freak out if a fish goes past me in the sea, so I have always thought them completely ewwwww.

having learned about the treatment of the fish, I now dislike the idea even more Sad they have one in the shopping centre in my town, and it gives me the boak every time I walk past. I admit to having the most horrendous hard-skin-feet ever, but the idea of letting fish eat it off me makes me feel a bit sick, tbh!

carriedababi · 06/08/2011 00:29

prob;em is, its the same fish nibbling one persons feet, then nibbling anothers.
if teh first person has anything infection, open wound or the fish draws evena tiny bit of blood it canbe passed along.

it would only be ok with fresh fish and fresh water for every customer

one of y friends who is a foot surgeon, an think of the proper name, thinks they are disgustiing, and he sees first hand the type of damage they cause and wants them banned.
and if he thinks that, i'll go with it

AmberLeaf · 06/08/2011 00:33

Due to summery wearing of flip flops and living in grimy London my feet are pretty minging at the moment so I really need a good pedicure.

Does it tickle?

Im not sure id like it tbh, I think id probably sit there going between laughing and screaming.

Birdsgottafly · 06/08/2011 00:35

They cannot starve them, they have 10 second memories, they forget they have eaten.

The risk of infection has been investigated and ruled out, there hasn't been any cases.

It should be regulated, the large concerns are investigated.

They don't bite the skin off, they suck it off, they don't have any teeth.

MightyQuim · 06/08/2011 00:35

I don't like the idea of it and would be worried about infections.

The HPA are still investigating the infection risk and haven't released their findings yet.
I saw they were doing fish nibbling parties for kids in one place by me the other day.

Birdsgottafly · 06/08/2011 00:58

The fish, themselves don't carry a risk of passing infections, the water in the tanks do.

They have had these in other countries for years, including whole body immersion, for serious skin conditions.

The same was once said about leeches, which we now know are safe.

Like everything, it is personal choice.

VB latest beauty fad is facials made from the droppings of nightingales, once popular with the geisha's. I'll be giving that one a miss.

carriedababi · 06/08/2011 01:15

mofo.
its your choice

ive never asked him what his view is on anal sex!

but seem crazy to me to do something your body is not designed to do.
the bottom is not a place for willys imo.!!
you could cause some seruios damage doing that, who wants to be pooping themselves when there older?

I love friday nights on MN

From fish pedicures....to sucking chiropodists cocks and anal sex! Grin

ZillionChocolate · 06/08/2011 08:45

I know someone with a fish pedicure set up and found that the water/tanks are surprisingly clean because it's all filtered very frequently. I was told that the fish are fed fish food every night.

PassTheTwiglets · 06/08/2011 08:54

That's a fallacy about fish having a 10 second memory - not true at all. My goldfish are proof of this - they have a memory of at least 24 hours. They remember that as soon as the filter gets switched off they get their food, so when they feel the filter going off they swim to the top and start opening their mouths.

Here you are, look... They can remember for months, apparently.
