... for some people to accuse others of 'bullying' or 'attacking' when they have their views disagreed with?

I've noticed a few threads on here in the last couple of days where anyone putting across a contrary view to the OP gets accused of being mean/bullying/personally attacking. I don't like it. Aren't people allowed to disagree anymore?

More to the point, I've noticed that some of the people complaining about 'bullies' are ganging up with each other to 'tell someone off' which comes across as a bit... well... bullying.

scottishmummy · 05/08/2011 11:44

squeakytoy · 05/08/2011 11:47

where are the quiches?? I am starving Grin

MmeLindor. · 05/08/2011 11:47

I agree with SM.

"some aibu posters only want concordant replies and yanbu.they want widdle ego stroked.. and if not agreed with they get all huffy and accusatory of anyone has temerity to disagree with them. if you dont want a range of opinions dont ask the question"

Impressed by the use of "condordant", btw.

Love the jackets. Nice wolef.

I am due a name change, mostly due to the extreme oddness of some visitors, I will be making it suitably wolefy. But subtle. Oh yes.

You sexy bjitch

MadameLupino · 05/08/2011 12:09

Sizzles smokin'

I do feel sorry for Helen Mumnset though. Half the interweb is calling Esther Rantzen or the Anti Meanies bullying council to complain about MN and we're giving them golden fodder like badges. And jackets. Imagine the squawks 'the caahs think it's funny, they are proud of bullying'. Missing the point that the wolef is funny, as is Maverick Bups, not bullying. Never bullying.

It'll end in howls at the moon tears.

khaliwali · 05/08/2011 12:14

And then you wonder why these threads are regarded as childish and a bit saddo.

Ormirian · 05/08/2011 12:17

It's not sudden.

BitOfFun · 05/08/2011 12:20

Khali! You can always hide it, you know Wink

ShirleyKnot · 05/08/2011 12:21

hahaha! good point madame. I hadn't thought of that - is this all to do with that weird shit what went down on the Bloggers network? Luckily I was on holiday when that all kicked off so haven't got involved in it at all.

The thing is, when the word "bully" gets bandied about here with such sickening regularity, it really really dilutes what actual, REAL bullying is like.

Having someone disagree with you on the internet - even if they call you a name - is NOT the same as having someone then follow you onto your facebook and call you a cunt in front of all your friends and family, or follow you on twitter and spread malicious lies about your actual REAL LIFE NAME or having someone call you on the phone everyday and saying that you're a fat bastard or following you home from school/work shouting shit about you or hitting you and taking your money, or or or.....

And it's annoying to me that some people are so quick to shout "bully" when that is simply not the case. Call me a bitch or a cunt - that's fine - I can acknowledge that - but calling me a bully? Well it just isn't true.

MadameLupino · 05/08/2011 12:24

My favourite was being called a Racialist, I think it was for saying Peter Andre was orange. Grin. And suggesting that vegetable can dance.

MmeLindor. · 05/08/2011 12:26

Oh, you are right, Shirley.

(that always sounds so retro, I feel like I am back in Mum's bedroom talking to her cousin Shuuuurley from Burmingham)

Bullying - of the sort that makes people truly miserable and destroys lives - it is so far from the odd nasty comment on MN that to link them is ridiculous.

And I love this kind of nonsense thread.

scottishmummy · 05/08/2011 12:26

mn is words on a screen.it isnt real.or comparable to bullying.
you can control mn by your usage and engagement
hide threads
report inappropriate posts to mnhq
mn doesnt usually permeate to real life like bullying does

the most usual mn cry of bullying is as result of a on screen spat or disagreement.

woollyideas · 05/08/2011 12:26

I agree with you Shirley. Real bullying is awful and usually difficult to get away from. Being disagreed with, or being called a daft tosser, on the internet is not the same thing at all. That's why I can't stand this tendency to cry 'bully!'

Having a lark on a thread is sinister, though. Do you remember that one, you racialist smurf-hater?

ShirleyKnot · 05/08/2011 12:31

Who who is a racialist smurf hater? Not me. I model myself on smurfette I'll have you know.

BitOfFun · 05/08/2011 12:32

You tokenist piece of blue trash Angry

MadameLupino · 05/08/2011 12:33

Sinister Grin. So true.

Smurfette was a popular gal for sure. No sausage digits there.
