building a damn that prevented small children from paddling in the estuary as you made it too deep one side and dry the other that you are a selfish twat that has no consideration for others?

Not only rough boys, who were rude to many Mums that intervened, but fully grown men organising the damn building.

Damn building is fine, it's a good activity, but then intimidating smaller children and mothers who wanted to remove the damns is shit. One builder, before lunch, did so and then would release the water swiftly with great excitement.

One father started shouting at me for removing one small damn that had been built and left for over ten minutes.

Then the rough boys came along and shouted at small children everytime they went near it.

Ruined lots of peoples' day, about four families left the beach altogether. Sad.

Charmouth is cool. (I have a local Nan!). Next time walk over the bridge over the river to the beach on the left. (Check high tide times at the cafe first!!) Walk however far is ok for the DC. Stick to the shoreline. Those sheer black cliffs are VERY unstable & there are frequent landslides & cliff falls. Especially avoid the areas of the cliffs where there are streams / waterfalls. You will see families with hammers climbing around the cliffs & sitting under overhanging rocks. They are a bit daft.

Set up your picnic blanket near the shoreline & ban the children from going anywhere near the base of the cliffs. The sea is quite safe to paddle in if your DC can swim.
But the BEST bit is fossil hunting. You need: small spades, plastic containers. Along the shoreline, midway between the cliffs & the beach, & around any small rocks you can find the best fossils. Look for small ammonites / pieces of ammonite, & other shell or sea sponge fossils. Then what I call 'tube' fossils (like cylinders, or sometimes long tooth shapes, often lightweight & blueish) - these are actually parts of some squid or shell? I'm not sure.
Also there are a lot of iron pyrites or 'fool's gold' stones, & sparkly quartz stones.

YANBU to find idiots like those rough men a total PITA. 'Roughness' is nothing to do with your social class - when I call someone 'rough' I mean that they swear, are loud, rude, no manners, inconsiderate etc.

I wish I'd been at the beach today, bossy dam builders 'n all.

But they were out of order if shouted at and intimidated small children. Are you sure the men weren't trying to protect the children from danger?

I love Ripcurl though. Never wear it, but don't see why it's inappropriate for a 50 year old to wear to the beach - they're long shorts, right? Better than that speedos in my opinion.

Ooh kallista, have made notes! It doesn't look like we will be sunbathing next week in Charmouth so it will be all out fossil hunting!
