I've just seen a post on facebook saying that someone is proud that their 6 week old baby has just eaten a whole jar of puree... Shock

Has anyone else seen examples of interesting parenting first hand that they thought were the stuff of MN myth? I honestly didnt think that people this, ahem, naive existed!

When my ds was 3 months old he lost his dummy so I gave him a fag and a whisky.
He slept really well that night.
Never did him any harm.

Darnsarfupnorf · 03/08/2011 21:03

posted about this before bu mil fed 3mo dd a WHOLE milky bar. id mentioned that id given her the odd taste of things (eg a suck on a watermelon and a teeny smudge of banana on the end of my finger) so she took that as a signal to break out the multi pack shed BOUGH SPECIALY FOR DD and let her loose of it!!!

'ooo look she really likes it!'

OF COURSE SHE DOES YOU TWAT GET IT OUT OF HER MOUTH BEFORE SHE FINISHES IT OFF!! Angry it pissed me off, can you tell? Grin

a girl i used to work with who was pregnant at the same time as me once said 'i still smoke and everything but i figured the odd spliff wont matter will it? i mean it not like i do it everyday' Shock sad thing is i dont think it did matter so shell probly take that to mean its ok and tell her friends Hmm

Wallissimpson · 03/08/2011 21:03

Strictmu, well feck me, I've managed to raise four kids to teens without giving them complete shit coke and other crap just in case they want it more.
Do you let them skin up and sink a few pints too, on that principle?

rhondajean · 03/08/2011 21:03

Does she like her earrings too Vera ? Smile

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 21:05

See I dont get the fruitshoot/fizzy things. My kids have a good tooth clean half hour after every meal. I am 24 and have never had a filling, and their teeth are white and healthy.

Drinking constantly, granted its shite, but picnics/summer hols/keep in the boot of the car, I will continue to do so.

And yes, they will also have an ice cream a day during summer.

But I only shop at my local butcher and fishmongers, buy locally sourced fruit and veg, dont smoke, and they have a maccy d's prob twice a year at a service station! I think Im doing pretty god damn well.

So, you may see a snippet of my life and judge me, but fuck off.

Can you tell Im arsey today Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 03/08/2011 21:05

Rhonda - some cars don't have passenger air bags and some do but can be switched off with the key. I put DD in her rear facing seat as I have switched my air bag off in my car, but you couldn't do that in DH's car so she always had to go in the back. He now has the option in the new car fortunately.

I used to volunteer as a peer supporter at a Healthy Start/MW drop in until I had DD, and I saw one mum giving her ds who could not have been more than2, a bottle of dr pepper when he complained he was thirsty. He guzzled the lot! And yes I judged!

strictlovingmum · 03/08/2011 21:05

No wallissimpson actually we don't drink coke, nor pints in this household.

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 03/08/2011 21:07

She's got hoops in them now. :o

Can't blame the tooth pulling on the fruitshoots, it's the lack of brushing their teeth that does that.

Chantelle is getting false ones next week. :o

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 21:09

No, the coke wont fucking rot their teeth! My dentist of 20 years sees them every 6 months and always compliments them on their teeth.
Its all about brushing, and that they do it properly.
Bananas are just as bad for teeth according to my (well respected) dentist.

I have lots of fillings - when I was a child my wee granny (who would be over 100 if she was still alive, had lived through both WWs, and didnt have access to half the knowledge we have today before you judge her) used to give me Red Kola and put a spoonful of sugar in the glass to make it less fizzy so it didnt upset my tummy.

Bless her she tried.

I wonder if people still do that?

Talking of dr pepper, I had a bottle the other day, for me not children, and dd(5) asked for a sip, I thought "what will a sip do? She can brush her teeth as soon as she gets home" (which she did btw) anyways the cheeky madam drank pretty much the whole lot leaving a dribble at the bottom! I tells ya that's the last time I'm ever letting her drink my drink.

to be fair to the Frootshoot Mum in question, she WAS gutted but saw no role in the whole thing for herself, which is the bit that got me-we make choices for our kids, we need to take the rap if we fuck up, right?

I agree that when I saw the little boys teeth, the black bits were all along the top so I think they weren't brushed. The frootshoot+no brushing=black teeth.

BumWiper · 03/08/2011 21:15

I was in my MIL's last week and she was making tea and presented The Toddler with a full bottle of sugary tea Shock
I wasn't really surprised because according to her I'm cruel to feed her a kiwi and overprotective for not letting The Tween take her to the shop.

1 free range toddler + 1 airy fairy tween x busy main road = very bad idea.

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 03/08/2011 21:16

Well that's me NEVER drinking diet anything again. Full fat sugar all the way now.

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 21:18

AVWPTP did you google too Grin
Yeehaa, full fat tastes soo much better anyway Wink

On a serious note though, I have learnt about that aparta stuff, but I still stand by my parenting skills.

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 03/08/2011 21:19

Bumwiper, kiwi s are evil. Shame on you. But really why would anybody give a small child tea?

OnlyWantsOne · 03/08/2011 21:19

I am so glad we are all so fucking perfect

caffevalium · 03/08/2011 21:20

I do wish more people would google aspartame. Filthy poisonous stuff and the sooner it's banned the better.

alowVeraWithPurpleTwuntyPants · 03/08/2011 21:20

monkey I'm with you. :o
