I've just seen a post on facebook saying that someone is proud that their 6 week old baby has just eaten a whole jar of puree... Shock

Has anyone else seen examples of interesting parenting first hand that they thought were the stuff of MN myth? I honestly didnt think that people this, ahem, naive existed!

Vegetable fobias, easily curable, all it's needed is a little imagination.
We have cured our youngest, by starting to soute and grill veg, instead of just boiling it.
She also eat raw peas, raw carrots, green beans, but would not touch them cooked.
Parsnip chip, beetroot chip lightly brushed with olive oil and little salt, she eat those as a snack.
Lot's of variations on all of the above.

My DD demanded a McDonalds the second she was born.

bringmesunshine2009 · 03/08/2011 20:50

Good point about what they eat at home. DS has 'treats' if we go out. At home he has a great variety of fruit, veg, wholegrains, dairy and proteins.

But people have seen him sharing my chips with a carton of apple juice at soft play. Not his usual meal! Honest! Only has juice out and never at home and loves water and milk. Really :)

dreamfeeder · 03/08/2011 20:51

the car seat one does my head in. Yes you can turn off airbag, biut they're still safest in the back. And really actually should be rear facing til age 4. in sweden they don't sell forward facing seats for the under three's, what's WRONG with us in this country that we take such risks with our children!?!

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 20:52

Oh for christ sake you bunch of bitches.

My 2 yr old was in the park today, and had a lot swig of my can of coke. He loves it. That was followed by a mars ice cream bar. You lot would have judged and reported me on this thread.

What you didnt see is the copious amounts of fruit he had just packed away in our picnic, and the king prawns he had for dinner.

He also has a bottle of milk at bed time, but fuck it, he has perfect teeth and speech. he is a kids ONCE, and if he wants a bloody bottle once a day he can have one.

As you were.

fidelma · 03/08/2011 20:53

I lost it in Clairs accssesories when I saw a very new baby getting their ears pierced.I made a huge scene and stormed out with my 4 dc following.

LiegeAndLief · 03/08/2011 20:54

rhondajean, would also just like to point out that some cars don't have air bags in the front passanger seat. You may have seen me driving my dc around in a rear facing car seat on the front seat in my ancient P reg Fiesta - it has one airbag. Only the driver is allowed the luxury of surviving a crash.

Dh's ancient Micra doesn't have any airbags at all..

Gosh, this thread ran away with itself! Grin

Why would you give a two year old coke? It is completely nasty shit. Seriously? Why wouldn't you just take a bottle of fresh juice or water?

deemented · 03/08/2011 20:56

When in hospital, having just had DD, there was a couple in the bed opposite having a row from the midwife. The babys dad had fed the day old baby chocolate buttons!!!

kiki22 · 03/08/2011 20:57

i got my nieces ears pierced at 2 in claires and will be doing the same thing if i have a girl... dont see the big deal about it better when they are little the don't mess about with them just leave them... Fizzy pink juice and ear piercing what a bad girl i am :)

ShirleyKnot · 03/08/2011 20:57

I saw a foetus eating a big mac

rhondajean · 03/08/2011 20:57

The thing with ear piercing is that in some cultures (and I believe religions but please excuse my ignorance on it because I am not certain here) its the done thing to have tiny babies ears pierced asap.

you can usually tell if said baby is hanging out of buggy with a sausage roll in one hand that its not a cultural thing though......

I remembered another one that winds me up something awful - the ones with the kids IN the shopping trolley in the supermarket - especially the small trolleys. Despite there being a drawing on every handle showing the same thing with a red line through it. You reach for the milk, Chantelle reaches for the strawberry milk up above, over she goes onto the concrete shop floor......

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 20:57

Because I believe if anything is banned they will want it more?
I did take juice, he had plenty.
But I drink 2L of coke a day (I know, I know), and he likes some. Its not going to poison him.

monkeyfacegrace · 03/08/2011 20:59

And water?? He would dehydrate if I only offered him water. He point blank refuses it.
My dd however loves it, and they have been brought up the same way.

theidsalright · 03/08/2011 20:59

I met a Mum last week whose 4 year old has to have 6 of his front teeth pulled due to them being rotten. She informed me that the dentist said it was due to her sons penchant for Fruitshoots.

She said "how was I supposed to know? They are for kids aren't they, I mean, it says on the bottle..."

strictlovingmum · 03/08/2011 21:00

monkeyfacegrace all things in moderation, sip of coke won't kill him, nor will ice cream bar on such a hot day.
Depriving them of these things, telling that they are bad for them, bad for their teeth will only make them want it more, and make you a hypocrite, so moderation is the key.
On the other hand McDonald, for me I am afraid big a no,no.

Sirzy · 03/08/2011 21:00

See I am all for the everything in moderation to an extent but Fizzy Drinks - especially coke - and fruit shoots are 2 of the only things I am really strict about with DS and will be for a long time

rhondajean · 03/08/2011 21:00

liege I know some of the older cars dont have them - but the majority of cars on the road now do and if all the people using them have the airbags turned off I will eat my hat - well I would if I had one.....

General advice is that children are safer in the rear until around the age of 12/similar height anyway, why take an extra chance?

Wallissimpson · 03/08/2011 21:00

Well, you know it's bad for you and yet you give it to him? It might not poison him but it will rot his teeth and if it's diet it may rot his brain, and yours.

NinjaTurtle · 03/08/2011 21:01

I know someone who decided to start weaning their baby at four months. No problem with that, DD was weaned at that age, some babies are ready before others, but they decided the perfect first weaning food was...white chocolate buttons. They melt in your mouth, you seeWink

Actually Chantelle prefers the baileys flavoured milkshake. Have it every morning poured over her 6 spoons of sugar weetabix. She's doing so well for. 2 week old. Wink
