or is that an unreasonable expectation?

Blimey I missed the bit of 12 miles in under 2 hours!! That's jogging not walking!!!

Illegitimate · 03/08/2011 16:34

Oohh just read the 12 mile thing. I must be snail slow because i don't know the distance but i'm sure its not 12 miles

TimeWasting · 03/08/2011 16:35

altinkum did clarify on the thread she meant in under 3 hours, which is still very fast indeed.

MissVerinder · 03/08/2011 16:36

When heavily pregnant with DD it took me three hours to do a five mile walk. Stopping to pee was accountable for a good half hour of this!

Twelve miles in two hours? Erm..... no.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 03/08/2011 16:36

SPD anyone? Severely limits your walking when pregnant and has nothing to do with fitness!

Poweredbypepsi · 03/08/2011 16:36

When I was pregnant with one of my pregnancies I walked alot because of school runs (I hate school runs) not 12 miles though probably 8 miles a day max. I was fine right up until the point I was rushed to hospital at the end of one day with high blood pressure and "wierd ECG". I think it's "ok" to walk a long way but it is much more pleasant not to and if you were not used to walking or had any underlying problems it would be impossible.

Now for example in my 5th pregnancy I am fine now but later on I thinj my hips wouod be agony after even half that distance.

upahill · 03/08/2011 16:36

still over 4 miles an hour is a brisk walk especially if you are pregnant!

I don't know what the thread it is

(scrathes head and wonders how I've missed that when I've been sat here all afternoon!!)

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 03/08/2011 16:37

Also depends on the position of the baby - squashing diaphram and lungs could also limit your walking ability. Again f all to do with fitness.

mum0ftw0 · 03/08/2011 16:38

Thisis a thread about whether 12 miles walking is managable, because I was really questioning myself on everything I've ever believed to be true, when reading those posts, lol

In developing nations there is no choice. We are a bit lazy here. I did walk everywhere when pregnant but generally 4 miles to the hospital and 4 miles back. Or cycled up to 42 weeks.
But if id had a car and chauffer or bus money id of been in them in a flash Grin

WhereonearthamI · 03/08/2011 16:39

I walk abnormally quickly (it's been commented on by passers-by more than once!) and even I couldn't manage 12 miles in two hours. I recently did 15 miles in 4 hours, which is good going, 12 would probably take 3 or so.

WhereonearthamI · 03/08/2011 16:40

Ok, I missed the 3 hours. Probably could at a push, but am not pregnant.

saggybaps · 03/08/2011 16:40

absolutely not! (in my case anyway). At some points I struggled to get to the end of the road!

saggybaps · 03/08/2011 16:41

(and I'm NOT precious)

eurochick · 03/08/2011 16:41

12 miles in 2 hrs is daft. Doing a 26 mile marathon in 4 hours would be a good result for a decent club runner!

I love walking but that is just crazy.

MissPenteuth · 03/08/2011 16:42

I could run 12 miles before I was pregnant. By about 30 weeks pregnant I could barely walk for 5 mins without feeling dizzy and out of breath. Pregnancy affects different people in different ways though, obviously.

12 miles?! heck no! im just in from town and have maybe walked 2 miles within 2 and a half hours Blush im out of breath within minutes and i went thru 3 bottles of water .. im only 27 weeks..

festi · 03/08/2011 16:48

pregnant or not 2 hrs for 12 miles, seems pretty quick for the average person. wouldnt it take a good 3 or a little longer 4 hours.

TadlowDogIncident · 03/08/2011 16:48

I'm fit, and was cycling that far every day till the day I went into labour with DS. But I couldn't comfortably walk it regularly even when not pregnant, and definitely couldn't have done after 28 weeks as I had SPD. If I'd tried it would have taken me all day, not 3 hours! I'd be very surprised if anyone I know in RL could have done it while pregnant either - most of us had health problems of one kind or another.

melika · 03/08/2011 16:48

Why would you want to do it? Surely you should be putting your feet up!

Get a taxi!

mum0ftw0 · 03/08/2011 16:48

sorry about not correcting your 3 hours thing.

I didn't want this taking over the other thread, so brought it here.

Where is the woman that said most heavily pregnant women should be able to do it?

FFS- i thought the arguement was sorted when we agreed on the same thing- disabled people wether in a wheelchair or not ger priority 'seating' (even if standing).

You had reason to be stood on the bus and not walking.

Can we ffs leave it. Able bodied parents should fold their prams to make room!
