Seriously, why do they do it? It just spoils it for other gym Mumsnet users.

link?

2shoes · 03/08/2011 14:59

your not wrong, but if you see a troll report it ffs

reelingintheyears · 03/08/2011 15:01

You don't have to look far.

bananasplitz · 03/08/2011 15:02

why not just ignore them

deliakate · 03/08/2011 15:02

2nd bananasplitz.

reelingintheyears · 03/08/2011 15:03

I can never be arsed (geddit) to report unless they're really offensive..

Often they're just sad.

LineRunner · 03/08/2011 15:04

All the fakey 'outrageous' posts are getting bloody boring and I hope MNHQ sorts it out soon.

allhailtheaubergine · 03/08/2011 15:06

But it is sometimes impossible to know the difference between a troll and a genuine fuckwit with fuckwitted opinions. You might strongly suspect the former but you can't be sure it's not the latter. Much as I dislike fuckwits, they have as much right as I do to post their fuckwittery on Mumsnet.

While we're talking of wankerish stuff I wish people would stop sending me those awful racist hateful emails. I've just had another one supposedly comparing how much is given to pensioners (who've paid their taxes, etc, etc) to how much is given to immigrants. They always end up with something suggesting you don't care about Britain if you don't send it on even though it's clearly crap Angry

NoobyNoob · 03/08/2011 15:09

I don't think I could be a troll, I wouldn't know what to say.

I'd probably say something really shit, like, you all have BO and bad hair!

Catslikehats · 03/08/2011 15:09

I don't really mind them..most of them are pretty pathetic and easily ignored, only very ocassionally do you get a really wankerish one and then IME MNers moderate really well on thread before it goes poof!

I do wonder if it wasn't for the trolls what some people would talk about....

limitedperiodonly · 03/08/2011 15:12

timidviper Do you know who's sending them? Can you tell them to stop or is it not worth it?

I've never had one of those. I used to get warnings that Tampax contained chemicals to make you bleed more that ended up giving you cancer. I liked the person who sent them so I let it go even though it annoyed me.

timidviper · 03/08/2011 22:20

That's exactly my problem. It's a friend's DP who sends them, they are like Daily Mail x10 but I wouldn't want to offend her by saying anything to him. I wouldn't mind if there was any humour to them, I can cope with politically incorrect if it makes me snigger but these are just bilge. Never mind I shall just continue to hit the delete button.

wannaBe · 03/08/2011 22:26

tbh I'm not sure what threads people are talking about, but I am often a bit Hmm when someone with a contrary opinion is automatically branded a troll. Because in truth there are people out there who genuinely hold such opinions, it doesn't make them trolls - it just makes them idiots, but there is a difference.

I also wonder why people feed them when if they just ignored the threads they would drop off of active convos and mn hq could delete them in time, but instead people seem to feel the need to jump on the thread and swear and name-call and by the 300th or so post it gets a bit tedious.

A1980 · 03/08/2011 22:55

Freedom of speech?

If you don't like what someone has to say, ignore them. It's an internet forum of no consequence. We don't know each other and even the most ignorant remarks have no consequence in your daily life. I don't get why people get so het up about this. Just ignore. It really doesn't matter.

michelleseashell · 03/08/2011 23:20

I find the constant calling out of trolls more annoying.

I don't think you can start a thread on here without an obligatory accusation of using Mumsnet as a wank bank

usualsuspect · 03/08/2011 23:23

I dunno if they are trolls or just really stupid people tbh

sundayrose10 · 03/08/2011 23:29

It happens in all forums...no need to get your knickers in a twist. That is why they're called trolls.

FreudianSlipper · 03/08/2011 23:30

i agree the outing of trolls is often boring have some not got better things to do then hunt them out

if offensive report it, if they annoy you ignore it there are plenty of other threads to read. its a public forum if you only want to read/debate/discuss things with sensible like minded people and they annoy you that much then set up a site yourself

FreudianSlipper · 03/08/2011 23:32

i have quite enjoyed some threads that i have later found out the op is a troll :o they way some get their knicker in a twist is rather amusing at times

LineRunner · 03/08/2011 23:35

I don't like the thought of genuine and sometimes vulnerable posters being exploited by cynical or warped arseholes.

MrsCrafty · 03/08/2011 23:36

They are not always trolls, they are sometimes people who do not hold the same opinion as the majority. This doesn't make a troll, it just tests the power of this site to ban a view if it doesn't appeal to the majority.

flangeismyfaveword · 03/08/2011 23:38

Do you think the current thread about rececently bereaved father and childcare is a troll???
I cant for the life of me work it out?

FreudianSlipper · 03/08/2011 23:41

i agree there have been some nasty ones about but some i am not sure if they are they jsut do not agree with the majority and the bickering gets so silly you wonder who is worse the troll or those bickering with the said troll

BrigadeOfLannisters · 03/08/2011 23:42

I moderate (well not really, since discovering MN but they haven't demoted me yet) another forum and there was a poster who was exactly like Gabby. He stopped posting a couple of years ago but still sends me interesting PMs from time to time. He's in Long Island (I can look at IPs) so I know it's not him but the similarities are quite uncanny. Mostly harmless.

Don't mind the occasional deliberate wanker here as they tend to be shot down quite quickly, especially the MRA-types. People who hit and run are annoying but easily dealt with.

The serious trolls, DM etc are very problematic for all concerned.

Top of my list of twats on the internet are my Dad's expat brother and third wife. My Dad doesn't have a computer or internet connection atm so I have a gmail account for him which I have to access from time to time. The absolute shit they send is unbelievable.

I have to play Daily Mail Bingo when they come to visit in order to stay sane; "it's the benefit bill!", "immigrants who won't learn our language", "our winter fuel allowance isn't enough to heat our Spanish swimming pool", even though they only declared a tenth of their income for thirty years when they were in the U.K and fiddled left right and centre!

What were we talking about again? Blush
