DH and I both have facebook, no internet right now so not been on it for a while.

5 friends phoned/text me today to ask if I was pregnant, DH's Sister called him, a bit annoyed that we hadn't told her before putting it on facebook (very close to his sister, lives quite far away though), and a work colleauge emailed me today saying I obviously wasn't telling work yet, but congratulations.

All because MIL put on both our facebook pages (and hers)

"cant wait for Jelly and X's new addition to arrive... so excitied!!"

We are getting a dog. Not pregnant. Despite her hints and tips (I kid you not). I know she's excited (about granchildren) and thats lovely, but she has apparently had about 20 comments from friends congratulating her on soon becoming a grandma, despite us making it clear it's not happening for a while. (We are trying but it may take us a bit longer than what we'd like).

Apparently she's now comenting back to them with things like "Sadly they are getting a dog not having a baby".

If she's going to get upset having to put friends straight why not make it clear she was talking about a dog!

DH has tried calling her to ask why she worded it like that but she wont answer her phone. She's at work but does normally.

This is the fifth comment along the lines of us not having children yet in the last 2 months. Then when DH pulls her up on it she plays dumb, like it was just a slip of the tounge or something. And Dh believes her. This time she knew what she was doing surely?

Yes, she knew what she was doing.. but how are you managing to post on here with no internet????

TattyDevine · 03/08/2011 14:23

Oh FFS. What a shit-stirrer.

Or maybe not but if she's not stirring the shit, then she is certainly as thick as it.

Gawd. YANBU.

TattyDevine · 03/08/2011 14:23

She probably has a "job" Squeaky. They give you computers and desks and stuff, its amazing.

loveulotslikejellytots · 03/08/2011 14:23

Work... thank god!

Sorry, meant to put, i'm at work!

TattyDevine · 03/08/2011 14:25

And before the next super-sleuth comes along wondering, a lot of offices block Facebook, apparently...

ChaoticAngeltheInnocentOne · 03/08/2011 14:25

YANBU Personally, if I was in your situation, the next time I saw her I'd casually mention that you're not sure whether or not you want children, but maybe I'm evil.

dolldaggabuzzbuzz · 03/08/2011 14:25

Big deal Hmm

Mitmoo · 03/08/2011 14:26

That's nasty by the MIL IMO.

ChaoticAngeltheInnocentOne · 03/08/2011 14:26

Grin at Tatty

squeakytoy · 03/08/2011 14:27

I have to say, I am of the opinion that anyone over 50 shouldnt have facebook Wink... I rue the day we set my MIL up on it... she just doesnt "get" it at all. Other than farmville, which keeps her very happy, thank god!

Ephiny · 03/08/2011 14:28

Given the context (all the comments about not having kids), yes she probably did it on purpose. How odd and annoying, especially as you are actually trying!

Congratulations on the new doggy arrival though :) There's no 'sadly' about it, dogs are wonderful!

loveulotslikejellytots · 03/08/2011 14:29

I am tempted Chaotic, but thats just plain mean. And yes, my work does block facebook, and you tube, and any thing else half decent (theyv'e not twigged about mumsnet yet though!)

I just dont understand the comments. We want children, we've told her that. We weren't sure when, and certain things have got in our way so far. But we are now trying.

Dh does let these comments slide, but I want him to see the replies on here to prove that it's not me imagining things!

OP if you were really evil you could just update your status and say 'So excited about getting a dog - now we won't need DCs for at least a decade!'

Or you could just totally ignore her pathologically attentionseeking behaviour.

catgirl1976 · 03/08/2011 14:31

Yes she knew what she was doing. I like the idea of telling her all those comments prompted you are DH to have a really good talk about it, and you have both now realised you never want kids. Just loads more dogs.

But then I am in a mood with my MIL so am being far more evil than necessary

squeakytoy · 03/08/2011 14:31

I can see both sides, she is obviously dying to be a grandma but she is being a bit tactless. My mum used to drop hint after hint, and should have known better as I was adopted myself, and I am struggling to conceive.

Yes she knew what she was doing.

'Every time you make another comment, we add three months to our projected date for starting TTC' :)

Worth a try?

diddl · 03/08/2011 14:34

Well it does sound as if she has been deliberately ambiguous.

TBH, it doesn´t really scream "baby" to me.

But does no one else know that you´re getting a dog?

loveulotslikejellytots · 03/08/2011 14:35

Grin at all of these! At least you've cheered me up.

Probably got too much time on my hands to worry about her silly comments but it grates on me.

OP posts:
ShoutyHamster · 03/08/2011 14:36

Oh yes, and -

'Every time you drop another rather insensitive hint, we add two more people to the list of who we'll call before letting you know. Five if the hint is made via Facebook.'

translation: we are really getting rather sick of your inappropriate behaviour now :)

loveulotslikejellytots · 03/08/2011 14:36

They do now diddl!

No one knew, it wasn't a secret, just ended up looking round dogs trust and actualy managed to persuade DH!

OP posts:
Mitmoo · 03/08/2011 14:39

Or say, we are so excited, that MIL is excited about our new dog, we've decided to get more, they will be our babies instead of the real thing.
