It's more than a school holidays thing. It seems like a malicious attempt to hook people into a drama / DV / EA situation. It often seems to start with a dramatic first (ever) post and before you know it, it is 100 posts long and the OP is nowhere to be seen.

One of the things I love about MN is how supportive and ready to help people are when someone is in need, but I feel that perhaps we need to take a more cynical and questioning approach before offering our time and energy to support some brand new posters who take without giving back.

My hardhat is on and I have a Wine in hand.

One thing I have noticed on suspect threads is that the user name tends to reflect the thread content - unusual if you are planning on posting more than once I would say.

For example - raisedincare posted threads about how hard done by she was because she was raised in care. Lateinlife posted about getting married and being a virgin late in life.

Not always the case granted - but it just strikes me as a little peculiar. I know people may namechange to a specific name for one thread, but they usually announce they have name-changed.

Am I making any sense?

I know we should report posts/posters we are suspicious of, but it does make me feel like I'm being a real tell-tale or behaving like an uppity prefect Blush

I also, sometimes, feel that at the other end of the internet there is someone sitting at MNHQ thinking, "Oh God, not that BIWI woman again"

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/08/2011 15:41

Oh, and yes, LadyFlumpalot, you make a lot of sense.

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/08/2011 15:49

Oh, and sometimes you don't want to report someone (as in my case

You've all got me paranoid now - every time I read a thread in Relationships that starts "this is my first post" I think it's a troll!
