Is it all a race to the finish?

Lottora · 02/08/2011 15:14

I worked for around twenty years to get where I am. Few people could say the same. I read mumsnet and see people complaining, yet I never have a complain.

I seem to have a pretty normal life. From the time I wake up, to the time I take my afternoon nap, I'm focussed on my task.

If it's a race to the finish, and the winner gets what, then why are you still here?

Talc - They are very nice, the skin is abit tough but they are very sweet. Couldn't get a whole sandwich out of one though!

My car is anything but tranquil Grin. 2.5l V6 Mitsubishi with an aftermarket twin turbo. Pulls 276 BHP. [evil Grin emoticon]

I always talk to Mitsi too when I leave her at night. I also tend to sing gently to her while smoothing polish over her curves...

BigBadWolfie · 04/08/2011 15:38

CogitoErgo I second that. Gibberjabber if ever there was some. This thread has made me laugh so hard. Finger cymbals and gibber jabber are a good mix. i tried replacing what with child/ren and also career kindasortaalmost made sense. but still no.

TalcAndTurnips · 04/08/2011 15:41

Good heavens! Ours are utterly pedestrian and usually filthy.

DH's bicycle, however, is a different matter. I once came home from work and found it having a bath. I believe most people clean theirs outside with a bucket and a cloth - or am I mistaken on this? It wears a little kagoule in the rain, too.

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 15:42

! I saw FLAT PEACHES in M&S today.

Why? They hadn't been accidently squished, because I looked at them properly and they weren't bruised or anything and then I looked on the carton and they are called "Flat Peaches"

LadyFlumpalot · 04/08/2011 15:45

My lovely Miss Mitsi

Aww sweet! I want a little bicycle raincoat! I know where you are coming from though, DF's bike cost more than the car and he regularly takes it apart to re-oil it or lube it up or something.

Deflatedballoonbelly · 04/08/2011 15:45

What a weird thread, OP are you barking?

TalcAndTurnips · 04/08/2011 15:46

Ooh get you Shirl, you trendy caaah

TalcAndTurnips · 04/08/2011 15:49

Oh no - take that back; that article was from 2009. God, flat peaches are so passe darling

LadyF that car appears to be protecting its anonimity - was it used as a getaway vehicle??

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 15:52

2 years these things have existed in the UK. TWO YEARS

LadyFlumpalot · 04/08/2011 15:52

Aha! That ziz for me to know und you to find out!

Been stung on numberplate fraud before - any picture of my cars are numberplate-less these days

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 15:53

I've never heard of them or seen them or eaten them or slept with them or ANYTHING

Ormirian · 04/08/2011 15:59

I sae flat peaches once. I thought they were squashed.

ShirleyKnot · 04/08/2011 16:02

SO did I Orm. I picked one up all "TSK! LOOK AT THE BLOODY STATE OF...oh, It's shaped that...eh? They're ALL FLAT....what witchcraft is this?"

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/08/2011 16:13

I had a dream in which Percy Thrower made a guest appearance the other night...

My car is not blue.

GinSlinger · 04/08/2011 17:19

How long do I have to work before I get the afternoon nap? No one told me about naps before

Pancakeflipper · 04/08/2011 17:28

Flat peaches are better than round ones according to my kids. Any gimmick fools my kids.

And they are pale inside. And very yummy and nice hard or soft.

Pancakeflipper · 04/08/2011 17:29

I am sorry. I am flat peach bore. Not really solving the riddle of the OP and her hard work for 20 yrs ( should I feel superior or guilty cos' I've had fun?)

TalcAndTurnips · 04/08/2011 17:41

Are there any plans to introduce flat varieties of other fruit and veg?

I for one would enjoy seeing a flat pineapple, or perhaps a vertically challenged pumpkin. There is a waiting market for all manner of alternative produce.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/08/2011 18:09

There are flat squashes, appropriately enough.

Flat peaches are easier to eat without getting it all over your face, but part of the pleasure of a ripe peach is the irrepressible juiciness.

garlicbutter · 04/08/2011 18:32

Grin surgeonsmate, that is pretty ... funny!

TAT you have surpassed yourself in anthropomorpic carrotology!

Somebody round here was growing square apples - he puts little boxes round the baby fruit - but I haven't seen them in any shops. Yet.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/08/2011 20:42

The name Talc&Turnips of course reminds us all of Baldrick, who not only had a turnip shaped like willy but also the converse (though I doubt he used talc on it)

TalcAndTurnips · 04/08/2011 21:49

Yes, Grimma - there's so much mileage in thingy-shaped vegetables. I was quite sad when That's Life bit the dust - if only for the outrageously phallic contributions Esther Ranzten used to hold aloft, quite unashamedly.

I used to like the bonkers old ladies Esther always managed to find in the street during vox pops. She'd get them to eat locust curry or poodle kebabs or suchlike, all in the name of light entertainment.

UntitledNo2 · 05/08/2011 02:17

Yup Talc, it was pretty grim. I loved it though - like most six year olds, I just wanted some neon pink meat I could dismember before eating...

I do love your lederhosen-y carrot. I think it may go well with this/. You know, as we are on the food with a face theme...

TalcAndTurnips · 05/08/2011 09:29

UntitledNo2 Grin

Here's another way to enjoy food with a face.

UntitledNo2 · 05/08/2011 21:41

Talc, that's fantastic... I have always had a longing to flog religious themed breakfast food on Ebay. Apparently, it is rather lucrative Wink

Now, if only I could find a pan in which to fry a Virgin Mary shaped egg, I'd be laughing. Add some artfully trimmed bacon, and you'd have a nativity on a plate Grin
