To have reported this builder to his company?

We were walking past a building site earlier and this bloke who was on the scafolding shouted something down to his mate and did this irritating hand action thing. I put my shopping down and shouted back up "willy, willy, willy!" and copied the hand action. The bloke then shouted down to DH that he should keep his dog on a tighter leash (meaning me) so DH shouted back "get lost" so another builder told us to fuck off before DH ended up getting filled in. When we got home I told DH I was reporting the blokes to their company and he said not to as they could end up getting fired and it was all my fault anyway Sad I did however report them for threatning DH. Did I do the wrong thing? I know in this current climate losing your job is a terrible thing to happen but they shouldn't have threatened DH. I am feeling a bit guilty though at what might happen, especially if they have families etc

Splattered - did you feel that he was sexually harrassing you? I'm not clear on that because if you did then you were correct to report him.

But I wouldn't engage with people who do this next time - just report.

A1980 · 31/07/2011 22:39

I was just trying to make him realise how stupid he looked.

In making yourself look stupid? Rise above it and ignore in future. It just isn't worth it.

PeopleCallMeTricky · 31/07/2011 22:40

It's great that you stood up for yourself, although you did say you weren't absolutely sure it was all directed at you, but what made you say that particular phrase?

redglow · 31/07/2011 22:40

how can you report something that might have happened?

whackamole · 31/07/2011 22:42

Wasn't this in the paper the other day?

Not nice I grant you, not sure I would go all out to report them.

Pancakeflipper · 31/07/2011 22:43

It's a wonderful image, you carefully placing your shopping on the floor then yelling "willy, willy, willy, willy."

And then you reported the builder....

Oh I have scared our cat, I am reading this and doing that unattractive snorting nose laugh. Thank you for cheering me so much tonight.

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 31/07/2011 22:43

Do you always look for trouble when you go out? What a joy that must be for your dh, or anyone else who has the misfortune to accompany you on your travels.

Does your dh make you carry the shopping so that your hands will be too occupied to make rude gestures to strangers? If so, it's back to the drawing board for him.

Sexually harassed, BeerTricks? Have you lost the plot? The op didn't even hear what the builder in question shouted to his mate; it could have been a request or instructions for all she knew, but she chose to go out of her way to insult him.

Splattered · 31/07/2011 22:46

a request for instructions with a thrusting motion and a massive willy in the air?

OP posts:
caffevalium · 31/07/2011 22:47

If anyone was sexually harassed it was the poor builders IMO. They should report her! Who to is quite another matter.

PeopleCallMeTricky · 31/07/2011 22:48

Maybe he wanted his mate to pass him a saw and he was miming the action?

Just a minute, a massive willy in the air? You never mentioned that Shock

HeatherSmall · 31/07/2011 22:52

YANBU at all I got somebody sacked for shouting nice tits are me .... on my way to a 12 week scan in the hospital lift, the dickheads were lined up and I identified them, they were sacked on the spot and I received a voucher as an apology from the company.

BooyHoo · 31/07/2011 22:52

if it is the gesture i am thinking of that danny does in grease then yes that is a sexual gesture and i can understand why if they were lookinga t OP she felt it was aimed at her. how disgusting. not quite sure why willy willy willy was the first response that you thought of but it can be very off putting being heckled at like that. i would have reported them just for the gesture tbh, if it was definitely aimed at you and is the one i am thinking of.

HeatherSmall · 31/07/2011 22:53

are me Blush ...... at me

A1980 · 31/07/2011 22:56

At the end of the day, life is full of battles and "injustices". You have to pick the ones you fight. A couple of builders whom you weren't sure were being rude about you or not is not a battle is not a battle I would have chosen to fight. It just isn't worth it.

Next time, keep walking.

A1980 · 31/07/2011 22:58

Heather I bet you didn't engage them though?

If the OP wanted to report them, she should have done so without making it worse and bringing herself down to their level.

WillyWillyWilly · 31/07/2011 23:02

This is so funny it made me change my name.

asecretlemonadedrinker · 31/07/2011 23:02

Willy willy willy has made my night!

Was it the thrusting action John Travolta does - like you get yoofs going up to girls doing it behind their backs in a "I'm boning you" kinda way?

Milngavie · 31/07/2011 23:07

Sorry OP but I am sitting here snorting with laughter at the image of a grown woman, surrounded by shopping bags, gesticulating wildly while shouting "willy, willy, willy".

Not that I am condoning the builders btw.

SoupDragon · 31/07/2011 23:07

you are a complete loon.

Yes, you did the wrong thing.

hf128219 · 31/07/2011 23:11

Definitely a 'boning action' I would say. I think your reaction was rather uninspired - did you perchance mean to shout wanker?
