AIBU?

To have reported this builder to his company?

We were walking past a building site earlier and this bloke who was on the scafolding shouted something down to his mate and did this irritating hand action thing. I put my shopping down and shouted back up "willy, willy, willy!" and copied the hand action. The bloke then shouted down to DH that he should keep his dog on a tighter leash (meaning me) so DH shouted back "get lost" so another builder told us to fuck off before DH ended up getting filled in. When we got home I told DH I was reporting the blokes to their company and he said not to as they could end up getting fired and it was all my fault anyway Sad I did however report them for threatning DH. Did I do the wrong thing? I know in this current climate losing your job is a terrible thing to happen but they shouldn't have threatened DH. I am feeling a bit guilty though at what might happen, especially if they have families etc

You acted like a total idiot by shouting and gesturing back and yabvu to report them when you are as stupid as them. You completely stooped to their level yet reported them for something you 'think' happened. Did you tell the person you reported this too about your own pathetic actions?

Obviously the op's place was carrying the shopping while out with her dh BeerTricks but maybe you overlooked that small detail in your quest to find evidence of sexual harassment where none exists?

The op didn't hear what one of the builders said his to his mate, but saw him make the gesture she has described. To me, the gesture sounds not dissimilar to the triumphant one performed by numerous males when their team/hero/horse wins.

For all the op knows, the builder may have been boasting to his mate (who may have supported an opposing team/hero/horse) about his victory - he may even have been listening to the radio on headphones and supporting a player in the Women's Open.

Whatever the builder may have said, as she did not hear the content there was no cause for the op to engage in any dialogue or pantomime with him or any other operative on the site.

IMO, the op is completely out of order in reporting the other builder for telling her dh to 'fuck off' after she had instigated a slanging match by her grossly unreasonable behaviour.

Seriously, op, you need to get a grip. This is not the way to behave in public to strangers unless you are looking to get 'filled in'. Next time watch where you're going instead of looking up.

. That doesn't look like requesting a wrench to me...

YANBU to complain. That said, your reaction was, er, bizarre.

That particular movement is used by some males to indicate that they're triumphant in matters other than getting their leg over BOF.

It's a kind of westernised Haka-type movement without the tongues.

Exactly izzy! Beartricks what on earth are you on about with your silly 'know your place' statement?! So silly.

Op was completely ridiculous to do what she did - she butted in on an exchange that was nothing to do with her. I bet she didn't mention her actions when complaining.

Howling with laughter at this thread. Why? Why would anybody shout "Willy Willy Willy"? Why those words?

And I am sorry but whilst I stick my head in the air, pull cats bum face and walk on, haughtily disgusted when recieving cat calls walking past a building site they day I DON'T get any attention will be totally depressing a great day for equality.

Can't begin to imagine why you shouted "willy willy willy", when "grow up you inadequate fool" would have been so much more appropriate but each to their own.

However builders were clearly out of order and if the OP felt harassed she has every right to call them on their pathetic behaviour.

My DH has worked for several major building firms in the UK and this sort of harassment is taken very seriously. If someone reported such behavior on a site over which DH had control they would be disciplined if an employee and chucked off site if a sub contractor. Contractors often now have to sign anti harassment agreements with the council and breach of these agreements are costly, particularly in terms of future work. Major companies just wont tolerate it.

Sounds like they sexually harrassed you and threatened your husband (not beat him up, I take it). You should report and let their employers decide if that is connsidered acceptable behaviour.

Ultimately you joined in a conversation between two other people uninvited. It may have been a silly one, even an offensive one, but it was theirs and not yours. If I am walking down the street and overhear A tell B that C is a n**r or a q**r or even that she's taking a man's job and it's not right, all being strangers to me, I have no business interfering even though I heard what was said. You put yourself in the wrong there.

I think I may have just injured myself laughing. WHY did you shout that??

YABU for being so rude to them without being sure that they were talking about you. If they were not talking about you, then from their perspective, you were the one doing the harrassing.

YANBU for making me laugh so hard and brightening up my morning Grin

Of corse yabu! You have no idea what they were on about! You walked past a group of builders noticed some sort of hand action that may or may not have been aimed at you and shouted willy willy willy at them, and this is sexual harassment?
Get a grip!
Stop acting like a fish wife
Even your dh says it was all your fault
It's a bloody good job it was a bunch of builders on a job and not some random pissed up twat who might have decided to actually fill your dh in , not just say it, what were you thinking!

1 minute, 30 seconds in....

I think you have to watch until the 1 minute and 37 seconds that is the bit I guess OP did.

OP you are mad I am with Beertricks that the builders were totally out of order but not before YOU were totally out of order with them giving that you are not even sure of what they were saying bwefore you did you "dance" or if it was even addressed to you!
