We ate out today and I had fishnchips
The fish was cooked in tempura batter, the seven chunky chips where placed in a nice little pile and they didnt have mushy peas they had crushed minted petit pois

I dont know about you but I like getting my gob round a nice thick batter that can stand being smothered in vinegar and mushy peas and ketchup and does not disintegrate like tissue paper.

That gorden bluey has a lot to answer for

salt and sauce! yum I had forgotten about that. need a night out in edinburgh so I can have chips with salt and sauce on the way home

my local chippy serves fish with a wedge of lemon and although that sounds poncy its really good because the fish is so fresh (NE Scotland)

Another thing about some fish and chip shops in the SE is that they leave the skin on the fish (boak). A terrible shame IMO. Just come back from Leeds and my mum was telling someone in the fish and chip shop about skin being left on and she was horrified, was quite funny really.
YY Tarty, don't forget curry sauce!

I remember getting smoked fish at a chippy in Pitlochry - yummy! Round here scraps are pretty normal but DH (who is a southerner) had never heard of them when he first arrived. But he's used to roe in chippies Shock. Yack.
