Poncy fish and chips wtf

ArseholesFlatfish · 29/07/2011 19:52

We ate out today and I had fishnchips
The fish was cooked in tempura batter, the seven chunky chips where placed in a nice little pile and they didnt have mushy peas they had crushed minted petit pois

I dont know about you but I like getting my gob round a nice thick batter that can stand being smothered in vinegar and mushy peas and ketchup and does not disintegrate like tissue paper.

That gorden bluey has a lot to answer for

WTF are scraps?

janetsplanet · 29/07/2011 20:31

my cousin lives in seahouses and says the chips are gorgeous

HairyBeaver · 29/07/2011 20:34

There the small batter bits, my local chippy frys up fresh scraps for me Grin

HairyBeaver · 29/07/2011 20:35

They're not there, obviously can't watch corrie and type

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 20:36

You get smoked sausage in many chip shops here in Glasgow.

catgirl1976 · 29/07/2011 20:36

ooh that sounds yummy!

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 20:37

And we're further south than Perth.

nolembit · 29/07/2011 20:39

I was at the chippie last night and they had smoked sausage and we're in Cumbria.

OrdinaryJo · 29/07/2011 20:41

OMG I remember the first time I had scraps, Doncaster October 1985. Drooooooooooooools.

Oh the Glasgow chippies pale into insignificance when pitched against the Edinburgh ones.
The Weegies dinnae hae broon sauce. Bad patter.

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 20:46

That's because it's vile.

Red sauce is ok...but you only ever have it there's nae broon sauce. Like when you're through in Glasgow.

Pippinintherain · 29/07/2011 20:56

Pattie butty, chips and scraps.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Grin

catgirl1976 · 29/07/2011 20:58

No no no MAYONNAISE. Thats the only sauce to go with chips

Pandemoniaa · 29/07/2011 20:59

Chipsy fish is generally poor down here on the South Coast, with the exception of Hastings. But got to say the poncy version I had at Rick Stein's gaff in Falmouth was farkin' lovely. Plenty of it too.

If you don't want Jenga chips on a bed of mushy green jus, best to stick with your basic chip shop usually though.

AlpinePony · 29/07/2011 21:07

Haggis or mealy pudding in batter is the way to go.

I'm bloody starving now.

InfestationofLannisters · 29/07/2011 21:09

A dab of full-fat Philadelphia goes nicely with these chips.

I attribute my healthy weight and slender figure to this meal. It is impossible to eat too much of it even if you add a nice Clarence Court egg Grin

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 21:16

Ketchup is much nicer than brown sauce. Brown sauce belongs in the bin not on chips.

Personally I like tartare sauce with my fish and chips,on the rare occasions when I have it
.I'm not very fond of chips, but could eat platefuls when dipped in the tartare sauce the local chip shop makes.

diddl · 29/07/2011 21:21

I´m abroad & haven´t had fishnchips for years.

I´d settle for what you had, OPGrin

VirtualWitch · 29/07/2011 21:21

Did you go to a restaurant for these fancy fish and chips? Surely better that way than being charged £15.95 for a main course in a restaurant described as a "New Take on Balmoral Chicken with Locally Sourced Black Pudding" - all it was was normal chicken, with thick round sliced black pudding, looking just like you get it out of the butchers!

Scraps ? am I the only one who calls them bits?

Brown sauce is for bacon or sossy sandwiches
