to get rid of the curtains

Really, what is the point of them. we never close them and we're not overlooked.
They're used mainly for small children to periodically pull on so now they need the pole fixing again.
I reckon we should just do without but DH thinks it'll make the living room look bare ( and possibly that we're too poor to afford curtains )
Blinds are NOT an option due to my having a very rational hatred of the vile objects.

The last time I took down my living room curtains to wash I remember thinking that it made the room look bigger and much brighter not having them.

We need them to keep the heat in during the winter, and because we're probably overlooked (top floor flat with other flats across a fairly wide road - I'm not sure how much they can see tbh).

Apart from the heat aspect possibly, yanbu.

How about going the Swedish way. They use panels like these:

How about putting up plain voile instead (not old granny netting!!) That way you dont have the bare look but you get all the light.

I have voile in my living room, I should really have curtains as I'm on the ground floor on a busy-ish road... Just havent got round to it yet. :P

I got rid of all the curtains in my house and replaced them with wooden venetian blinds. Mainly because there's 2 asthmatics in the family, but also because my worst control freak hate was the way DH left the curtains when open and closed them! Grin

the point of curtains is to make a room dark(er) and to stop drafts. Privacy too but that's not an issue for you

tawrag · 30/07/2011 18:58

If they are a nuisance and you don't need them, get rid. You could always wash them and put them away somewhere just in case you ever want to put them up again.

i think blinds are nice

CurrySpice · 30/07/2011 19:59

I never drwa my downstairs curtains

But I think you might be surprised how echoey your living room is without them, especially if you have wooden floors
