To think that there is no acceptable reason for a grown-up to get their face painted at the zoo unless it is for charity!

I am getting increasingly disturbed by the number of adults I see at the zoo with their faces painted - usually tigers or cheaters.
Yesterday took my kids and spotted 3 including the oddest which was a woman with a tiger face obviously on a date with her boyfriend and no children.
Now I consider myself a jolly enough person up for a laugh but this is something I just don't get!

My friend has done face-painting at lots of music festivals - she has been asked to paint all kinds of things on grown-up faces - often very questionable taste! Grin Think lots of drunk teenage boys wanting to be "dick" heads Shock Their parents should be very grateful they didn't go for tattoos!

LetThereBeRock · 29/07/2011 10:43

I'm sorry for your dd,Kladdkaka. That's so sad that she was upset needlessly like that.

OP.YABU.There's nothing wrong with adults wanting to have their faces painted. It's not what I'd do,but then I hated having my face painted as a child, but think it's fine for other adults to want to join in the fun too. It harms no one.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/07/2011 10:44

... or maybe OP's face hadn't been painted as a 'cats-bum' and everybody thought it had... Confused

Shutupanddrive · 29/07/2011 10:46

Didn't Tom cruise do this Recently? I saw it in a magazine I think. Each to their own, it doesn't bother me

sallysquirrel · 29/07/2011 10:53

Why are people being so nasty. There was nothing venomous about my original post. I didn't realise mumsnet was an excuse to bully and personally insult but I think it says more about you lot than it does me Sad
YABU or YNBU would of been quite enough with perhaps a little light hearted discussion and banter.

I'm intrigued by the cheaters. Is their facepaint a big red "A" for Adulterers?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/07/2011 10:56

It is light-hearted OP, nobody's bullying you. You've used these Hmm throughout...

I'll swerve your posts in future though if you're offended. :)

moanymandy · 29/07/2011 11:00

I used to work in a residential care home and we went to the zoo for a day visit, I had my face painted of a butterfly! It was great! The elderly residents loved it!
I later went to my friends house and was sat chatting when her boyfriend walked in (who I didnt know that well) and I totally forgot about my face paint until he left!! Grin he didnt mention it but I bet he was thinking WTF??!! Grin

ImeldaM · 29/07/2011 11:02

I think, OP, its because your posts didn't seem light-hearted & the use of Hmm is usually derogatory.

posterofagirl · 29/07/2011 11:05

I always want a ballon and my face painted at the zoo.

But I fear I will be judged Sad

AnansiGirl · 29/07/2011 11:06

Why does it disturb you? Unlike evangelical Christians, they aren't going to pounce and try and convert you to their way.

AnansiGirl · 29/07/2011 11:07

'There is no acceptable reason...'
In your mind. Most of us seem to disagree. Grin
Is that what's disturbing you now?

Pandemoniaa · 29/07/2011 11:07

I spend at least one day of most weekends in face paint. But then I know I'm oddly disturbing. I don't do animal faces, mind so perhaps that's my salvation.

TiggyD · 29/07/2011 11:09

There should be some sort of register for these sick face-painted weirdos.

BlaiddDrwg · 29/07/2011 11:09

Even Tom Cruise like a bit of face painting.

khaliwali · 29/07/2011 11:09

It is not something I would ever do, as a child I avoided the face paints like the plague, the smell, the grease and the ridiculous clown faces. I shudder at the sight of face painted kids and have to control a desire to spit on a tissue and scrub them there and then. But this is MY problem, my pinky bedroom is not to everyone's taste and friends have pointed out that it's like a 10 year old girl room. We all have a childish side, who can dictate what we do with it? On the other hand, there are certain pet peeves that we should also be allowed to have, mine are face painting and people who refer to themselves as myself and mums who speak to their children VERY LOUDLY to show us how clever they are. I think we should also be allowed to dislike and take the piss out of certain things, it is what makes us different and it can be entertaining.

KAZAMM · 29/07/2011 11:17

OP don't take the comments to heart. It's Just When you said you found it disturbing we found It funny and a strange thing to get worked up about.

CheerMum · 29/07/2011 11:43

oh dear ... i've also been known to build a sandcastle by myself ... better go hand myself in

[hmmm]

muminthemiddle · 29/07/2011 12:50

I am loving this thread.
I can't remember ever seeing an adult with their face painted. Perhaps I have and not noticed them. Either way it's their choice like eating ice-cream which I always find a bit strange as I associate it with children.

joric · 29/07/2011 14:20

Sallysquirrel well, looks like it's just me and you then...!! :) Nothing has been said here to make me want my face painted.. Ever!
The only adult I have ever seen do this looked a complete plank. His DW and teenage daughter looked horrified and tried to talk him out of it -his little DS was mildly amused- when it was done ( he actually looked better because it covered his face) he was leaping around, clocking everyone - I thought ... (miserably I now understand) he looked a complete k**b.

prettyfly1 · 29/07/2011 14:29

How boring are you - its called fun. Try it some time.

pinkthechaffinch · 29/07/2011 14:39

I agree it's an odd thing to do with no accompanying dc.

Bit like couples who go to Eurodisney [shudder]

joric · 29/07/2011 14:42

Pretty Thanks for advice, I really will try to have some 'fun' in future.
I now know ( from reading this thread) that having my face painted is key to having a fun day out and would be a great laugh if only I let myself go a bit.

joric · 29/07/2011 14:43

Pink - that make 3 of us then :o

joric · 29/07/2011 14:45

LMHO at 'couples at Eurodisney' !!! :o
