To want to brutally murder the idiot in charge of hiding all the useful MS Office functions?

So I have a "chat" tomorrow about a long-term supply booking (part-time which is all I really ever want to look for) and the eternal joy of the observed activity going into a bunch of kids blindly, no idea of numbers/SEN/ability so pitch it at a level and hope... not to mention the kids get increasingly restless and ratty as stranger after stranger is wheeled out to them for their 15 minutes of scrutiny (I'm in the before lunch slot so I'm not holding out much hope).

I'm fucking GOOD with Publisher, brilliant at making resources and things - but we just "upgraded" to Office 2010 and every fucking button I'm looking for is bloody hidden in some kind of Crystal Maze meets Krypton Factor meets The Cube kind of challenge and test of endurance to find the bugger. What should have been a 10 minute job to do is taking bloody hours.

I want to find the fucker who hid all of my buttons and functions and brutally murder him... preferably with a paperclip with annoying wobbly eyes (and yes the creator of that paperclip and the monster who invented PowerPoint and thus sentenced an entire generation of adults to interminable death by PowerPoint talkathons for hours on end can die too). Oh and do you know how nightmarish it is to find FairyTale pictures that haven't been eaten, digested and spat out by the Disney monster?!?!?! That one's another rant though!

I'll go back to finding my "send to back" function now.

YANBU. When our office swtiched I lived without printing for a good few days till I found where they had hiddden the fecking button for that.

HopeEternal · 18/07/2011 17:28

YANBU. I still can't find things on Office 2007.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/07/2011 17:28

I've just started using it as well, I hate it. I'm forever going to the bottom left circle thingie, clicking on that,, clicking on 'Office' and then pulling up the suite of functions that would be more usefully avaialble on the taskbar.

I sympathise...

MoreBeta · 18/07/2011 17:29

I've deliberatley gone back to earlier versions of MS Office for this reason.

Sometimes products just don't need improving any more.

motherinferior · 18/07/2011 17:31

PLEASE murder the paperclip inventor. Please.

Ilythia · 18/07/2011 17:38

Actually I think YABU.

If you murder the fucker then he can't fix it.

Make him fix it while you jab him in the back with a sharpened paperclip as an incentive.

THEN murder him.

I was writing an essay and it was all lovely and formatted in Open Office. Opened it on my stick on the uni computers and lo, it was fucked. And could I figure out how to reformat it? No. I could not. Took me 10 minutes to save the bastard thing.

If you upgraded from 2003 or earlier I know what you mean - it takes a lot of getting used to. But you will and it is worth it. 2007 (which is similar to 2010) is the first version which is comparable to the contemporaneous version of WordPerfect which is and remains a better product.

Some of us remember VHS killing Betamax. Betamax was a better product but VHS was marketed better.

Andrewofgg · 18/07/2011 17:59

And at least they've killed the dancing dog/paperclip!

Andrewofgg · 18/07/2011 18:00

Sorry, DBF and others, it was a virtual dog, you know :)

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/07/2011 18:00

Andrew, dating yourself nicely Grin but I do agree...

Andrewofgg · 18/07/2011 18:05

Listen, Belle, I remember open-reel tape-recorders!

BelleDameSansMerci · 18/07/2011 18:16

What on earth are those?

Andrewofgg · 18/07/2011 18:30

Well before eight-track, I fear. Audio tape-recorders before cassettes were invented about 1965.

RustyBear · 18/07/2011 18:38

My Dad has just upgraded to Word 2010, and he says it's much easier to use.

He was 101 in April....

Flisspaps · 18/07/2011 18:49

I 'upgraded' to Office 2007 and hated the new ribbon at the top as I like the old menus.

This helped me a lot - it's a download which installs the old style menu :)

EcoLady · 18/07/2011 18:53

I too really struggled the first time I used the new fangled "Where the f@#£ have they put the File menu?" version. I'm sadly used to clcking on each big button on the ribbon in turn as I search for the function that I know damn well should be there somewhere.

I really like it now I'm used to it.
Don't forget to personalise the Quick Action Toolbar - it will make using it far less painful.

smokinaces · 18/07/2011 19:14

God no, YANBU. I had a job interview Friday where they were using this. I use the older version at work. I had a timed test in Word and Excel - cacked my pants as I couldnt even find the bloody save button. Or the print preview. Did not help with the interview nerves!!!

Flisspaps · 18/07/2011 19:27

I will post this for anyone wishing the old toolbar will come back!

Flisspaps · 18/07/2011 19:27

I meant to add again to that last post!

manfromCUK · 18/07/2011 23:39

totally agree about powerpoint, and we aren't alone - some people in Switzerland have formed a political party to try and have it outlawed. They have done some pretty convincing sums about the amount of cash it wastes.

CestTout · 18/07/2011 23:55

Completely agree. We swapped in April and it took me fecking ages to work it out. Also cost a fair amount for the swear jar! I also really struggled to find the damn print button. Three months on it is okay, but has taken a good while!

Jux · 19/07/2011 00:02

I've been using it since November and I still loathe and despise it. I shall join you quite happily in your killing spree.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 19/07/2011 00:06

Learn the keyboard shortcuts. They are your friend.

btw.. Ctrl-P = Print. You don't need a button for that Grin
