To want my dd to stop making a noise for 5 minutes

i only want 5 minutes. She's been up since 6.30, and there has been a non-stop noise out of her mouth without a break since that time. She's driving me nuts. If it's not talking or singing it's a noise of some sort. (she's 5). and still 80 minutes to go before bedtime. Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh help!

Lock yourself in the toilet for 5 minutes?
Go into the garden for 5 minutes - she might not notice!

YANBU btw, I have a 3yr that's exactly the same!

Bythemoonlight she follows me, and if she doesn't, she just makes a noise louder. I can actually hear her from outside.
How long til wine o'clock

It's been wine o'clock in my house since 5pm and it's always 5pm somewhere :)

I often say the same thing about my dd 4yo. We play the quiet game where the first one to speak is a rotten egg, but she always looses.

I could stick her in front of the tv and that'd keep her quiet but I can't bring myself to do it all the time, not healthy I guess.

I guess we just have to be happy to have confident, talkative children.

Oooh and I dream of a vacuum helmet I can put on her, so she can chat away while I have peace and quiet.

I have one like this, she's 6.5. (don't worry, she does have some learning difficulties) Hopefully she'll grow out of it soon. They all do in the end.

I usually try putting on music that we both like, taking her for a walk or letting her play in the garen. I might concider ear plugs at some point. Failing all of that that I just shout "SHUT UUUP"!!! It usualy gives me a few seconds of quiet... before the tears start. [aaaagh!]

I do sometimes tell her that dd2 is lucky she can't hear her or she'd have a headache too.

DS is like this. He's 5. He has been so bad today that I told him to bugger off , I had asked over and over again for some quiet time. I tried going up to my room and reading a few mins (his dad was downstairs and he had loads of toys out btw) but he follwed me.

why not read to her, if its a nice story she will be engrossed

I could have written your post. DD1 is 4.5 and she will not stop talking, singing or making stupid noises. And her volume control is set to very high!
It is driving us insane.

My DD won't even stop talking when I am brushing her teeth.

Have you played the sleeping beauty game?dress up in lovely fancy clothes and lie down on the floor to "fall asleep for a hundred years"!!!I loved playing it when I was a little girl, and dd1 who's 6 loves it too :o

Could you introduce some sort of 'quiet half hour' before bedtime? Make it very special, with a her choice of storybook or music, soft lighting, maybe new pyjamas? You could even have a little scented candle which it would be a treat for her to light (under supervision, hand over hand!) if she's been quiet enough. She'll be calm and quiet, you won't have to explode your own head.

Audio books!! The only time my DD is not singing or chatting is when she is listening to them whilst drawing or playing!! She is 7 btw!

Another one here with a DS who's 5 and doesn't stop. All day some kind of noise has come out of his mouth. When I ask him to please stop talking for just 5 minutes, he says "I can't, I like talking"

Makes it very difficult doesn't it joric? And at sixth's DS!

DS1 has a new habit of latching on to the most irritating hooks on songs and singing them at top volume over and over and over again. His school report said he has a lovely singing voice. I think they have the wrong child!

If its not that, it's meowing or barking.

I feel your pain

Oh pocketsocks we have animal noises too! DD also talks in her sleep! Her school report says she has trouble letting other children speak.

I am pleased to say that she is now asleep.

Ooh might try audio books with her.

OP, if it's any consolation, DS (3.8) has been chattering non-stop since 5:45 this morning until he went to sleep around 8pm.
Now he's asleep, the silence is deafening.

My DS (2.2) is the same - I love it though! Maybe because it has only been 1.5 years, not 3 or 4!!!

Or maybe it is because I was/am such a chatterbox!!! I used to have to sit next to the teacher at school because I used to finish my work in super quick time, but then I would disturb all the other kids and prevent them doing their work...

I feel your pain. DD(4.10) has been talking, singing and doing 'funny' voices non-stop from 7am until 8pm. When I cracked at one point and said 'Look, can you just stop making that NOISE for ten minutes?' she looked really hurt and said 'Mummy, I'm four. I'm only singing !'

So not only is she loud loud loud, she's also got a fine line in unanswerable logic. Am dreading summer holidays, frankly.

i've got one of these and he's only 23months. problem is he has big blue eyes and long eyelashes and he knows he is cute and absolutely gorgeous. when i loose it he melts down and wails with big tears. he spends over an hour singing and practically cartwheeling around the bed, he just can't switch off!
