I'm raging inside I'm so fucking angry Angry

We have just had our dog brought back by the police because he left the fucking front door open again!!!!!!

And now a poor little boy has had to go to the hospital for a tb jab, the police man said our dog walked over to the pub garden where some kids were playing football, a witness said the kids were all stroking him and playing but one of the boys got a bit rough and started hitting him with a stick, the witness said the boy climbed on his back by this time our dog must of got pissed of and nipped the boy.

I have told dh soooo many times to shut the front door after him when he goes into the garage for something incase our dog gets out as he is over friendly and will go up to people!!

I'm now scared someone will want to come and take our dog away and put him down because of his breed! If I was the boys parent I would report this to the dog warden so I'm guessing they will do that.

Would they bring him back if they thought he was a dangerous dog?? They did say they could tell his was friendly because the landlord at the pub was feeding him and playing with him.

I'm sooo Angry about this I can't even look at dh, ahhhhh I've told him so many time about the fucking front door!!!

scottishmummy, I hardly consider knowledge of the DDA and a large amount of experience to be "bluster". Hmm

But perhaps you know more about the Act and the manner in which it's been implemented than I do and would like to share that knowledge?

I don't surmise, I am bloody SURE that a child which hits with a stick and climbs on a dog is a nasty littl brat and just as sure that if this were an aggressive dog the child would be dead by now. That the response to such aggression from the child was a mere nip proves the dogs good nature AFAIAC.

And I would far rather be the number ONE dog apologist if it's all the same to you. :o

scottishmummy · 14/07/2011 19:56

dog apolgist no3
so the child is a brat and wet
the empathy cup overfloweth, really it does
and of course op would say her dog has the temperament of lassie and grey friars bobbie

Kayzr · 14/07/2011 19:57

It was one mistake that I'm positive that the OP won't let it happen again. I don't care if I am a dog apologist. I'd bloody well expect my dog to nip a little git that was hitting it with a stick and climbing on it. My boys are 4 and 2 and they know that they have to be gentle around dogs.

OP don't get rid of the dog. I'd go to the pub and say thanks to the landlord.

catgirl1976 · 14/07/2011 19:58

It must have the temperament of Lassie if it only nipped a child who was hitting it with a stick. Which is very lucky for the child, the dog, the OP and the OP's DH.

choccyp1g · 14/07/2011 19:58

Is it in fact possible to train a dog not to go across the front door unless he is with someone?

Could you give your DH the job of carrying out this training? Alternatively, tell him to keep the Bl**dy door shut.

scottishmummy · 14/07/2011 20:00

couldn't make this up dog never met is splendid lovable family dog
the child it bit is wet, a little git and a brat
so a fair appriasal then is it?

HalfTermHero · 14/07/2011 20:00

The kid does sound a bit of a brat but equally the dog had no business whatsoever to be roaming around on its own. Your dh made a massive mistake there, no doubt. Maybe you should consider whether your family is actually capable of looking after the dog. I don't say that in a nasty way, more in a kind of it might be better for everyone including the dog if it went to a nice new home.

catgirl1976 · 14/07/2011 20:01

Well from the version of events as told by the OP - yes it's a fair appraisal. Do you think the OP is mis-leading us for any reason?

scottishmummy · 14/07/2011 20:02

based on owners subjective account you can all tell this about the child
and further insults to add to other than
brat
wet
little git
next someone will say kid asked for it

Kayzr · 14/07/2011 20:03

ScottishMummy, if the dog had run up to a random kid and mauled him then fair enough the dog needs to be put down. But if a child is hitting a dog with a stick then I feel it deserves it. If my dog nipped one of my boys because they were hitting it then they would be in the wrong not the dog.

floosiemcwoosie · 14/07/2011 20:04

I think I would bite DH to make sure he got the message!

A night in the doghouse (sorry couldnt help it) for him

Kayzr · 14/07/2011 20:04

Cross posted, yeah I said it. He did ask for it.

scottishmummy · 14/07/2011 20:04

of course owner will describe dog as lassie, grey friar bobbie and ole shep temperament.she would say that wouldnt she...

DogsBestFriend · 14/07/2011 20:05

The kid asked for it.

catgirl1976 · 14/07/2011 20:06

A child that hits a dog with a stick is a brat. And cruel.

I didn't say he was wet - just that a child you let a nip make him scared of dogs was.

And if you like - a child who hits a dog with a stick is extremely lucky only to be nipped. A dog can't say "stop hitting me with that stick please". If it had bitten him it would have been a horrific situation, and of course the dog should not have escaped, but the child would have been partly to blame for being bitten. I am sure everyone is thankful the child was not bitten and that can ONLY be down to the good nature of the dog if it was being hit with a stick

catgirl1976 · 14/07/2011 20:07

sorry - that should say "a child who would let a nip make him scared of dogs"

scottishmummy · 14/07/2011 20:07

dog apologist no4 and a the kid asked for it too
can any of you see why dog owners can get bad name and stereotyped as irresponsible owners

blackeyedsusan · 14/07/2011 20:07

yes I would be fuming mad at dh for leaving the front door open.

unfortunately, i have a h like that and you need to supervise them like a four year old put extra precautions in place and fence and gate your front yard because the dozy bugger will only go and do it again

helpmenow · 14/07/2011 20:07

one of the boys got a bit rough and started hitting him with a stick, the witness said the boy climbed on his back by this time our dog must of got pissed of and nipped the boy.

The boy was asking for it.

HalfTermHero · 14/07/2011 20:07

Do we know how old the kid is? If say a toddler, then hitting the dog will not have been done in malice and kid absolutely not a brat. But if the child was older than four then yeah, quite bratty to purposely hit and hurt the animal.

choccyp1g · 14/07/2011 20:08

Could to train the dog to alert you when the door is left open? Plenty of dogs are trained to carry out much more demanding tasks.

squeakytoy · 14/07/2011 20:08

So Scottish Mummy, you think its okay for children to go around tormenting animals do you? Hmm, too right the little git asked for it.They didnt let the dog out on purpose, it was a bloody accident.

Yeah, I can be No.5 if you like Grin

helpmenow · 14/07/2011 20:09

of course owner will describe dog as lassie, grey friar bobbie and ole shep temperament.she would say that wouldnt she...

The fact that the dog was brought back sipports the OPs description of events.

Kayzr · 14/07/2011 20:09

If it had been an adult hitting the dog with a stick the police would have arrested them for animal cruelty. So what is the difference? If the brat child is too young to understand then it shouldn't be out of its home without an adult to keep an eye on it.

alew · 14/07/2011 20:09

If the dog warden thought your dog was dangerous they would not have brought it back to you.
