Did Ebay give her my private number!? Really pissed off but it's probably my own fault. EBAY Could she have waited.

I am selling a wedding dress on ebay and it is unworn and in it's box so I didn't have a picture.

I found a picture on Google images and used it, I thought it was just a picture of the dress advertising it on another site and there was no copyright marks on the picture.

I had to go to hospital yesterday and get put on a monitor because my baby hadn't moved in 2 days. They were finding it hard to get a good trace and there was loads of decreases so I was nearly in tears with worry.

I got a phone call and ignored it as didn't want to answer in the ward, person wouldn't give up so I answered the call and asked them to call back and said I was in hospital. They wouldn't hang up and went on to ask where I got the picture from my ebay listing, I told her and she went on to tell me it was her in the picture. I said I would remove it but had to go, she kept going on about where I got the picture and I said I would remove it and hung up.

Came home to a message on ebay saying remove it or she will take legal action, I removed it immediately and replied to the message.

I have no idea how she got my phone number!? And I am fuming that she wouldn't hang up when I said I was in hospital.

I know I was wrong for using the picture but I didn't claim it was mines o even the same dress.

Am I being unreasonable? Should I have answered all of her questions while in hospital?

Wow I am considering cancelling my account over this. I don't think they should have given her my number without them trying to contact me first.

OohJar I didn't know if the info was correct so I removed it anyway as soon as I got home.

Ok, she was angry, you were upset. We often say and do things in anger that we afterwards regret. Are you sure your tel number is not on your personal profile in ebay? It is possible that she emailed them with her business details and link to her website and obtained your telephone number that way, as far as I am aware Ebay don't have a contact number so they wouldn't have spoken to her on the phone.

She acted insensitively but then when she saw the picture her first thoughts might have been that you were trying it on. And to be honest I often get excuses from ebayers when my stuff is late turning up ranging from the dog died to them being in hospital having a leg amputated or some such nonsense. It could be that in her anger she thought you were trying to get sympathy.

Now that she has calmed down and had time to read your explanation I'm sure everything will be fine. It was just one of those things and whilst it was upsetting at the time, you mustn't let it ruin your day or stress you out. Enjoy your pregnancy and spend the money you get from the dress on a treat for yourself!

P.S I'd be tempted to email her and ask if she's interesting in buying a wedding dress - never worn! Wink

DuelingFanjo · 14/07/2011 10:47

yanbu to wonder why she had your number! that's awful.

WowOoo · 14/07/2011 10:48

Yes, that pic shows the dress off far better than hanging it would do. I see why you tried to get a pic now. Shame you cancelled your wedding. Can't you keep the dress for later date?

squeakytoy · 14/07/2011 10:48

You are doing it again! If that is her website, she will possibly see that you have linked it to this site. And as the comments you have made about her are not exactly flattering, she wont be too happy.

She did nothing wrong. You did, even though it was unwittingly.

MrSpoc · 14/07/2011 10:49

Hi Op,

Just because the dress has not been worn does not mean you cannot put it on and take a picture of it. This will still mean it is new and never been used.

You would of been well within your rights to refuse to talk to her whilst you were in hospital, but from her point of view how would she know you were in hospital and not just trying to fob her off.

Also Ebay would of given her your number because they could of been sued for hosting a stolen picture so they were trying to look after their business.

TotemPole · 14/07/2011 10:50

Does your ebay ID give away your real name.
Do you have your contact details on your profile page?

I can't see ebay giving out details just because of you using that photo.

SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:50

Rhubarb My number isn't on my profile, that's why I was so confused. :)

I will see if she messages me back.

Fanjo (love the name!) I think I will call Ebay and ask if they gave her it.

Wow I have decided that I will get a less showey dress, the train is bloody enormous!

I don't think they should have given her my number without them trying to contact me first.

Ebay are only a hosting site for sellers, and when you register, you give them a contact number. If you were selling the dress in a newspaper or gumtree you would put a phone number on your ad.

TheRhubarb · 14/07/2011 10:52

Erm, websites can track links and this link would show up as mumsnet/talk/aibu - she's bound to read it.

Unless you want her to read it, I would ask for that link to be deleted.

Oh and what MrSpoc said.

larrygrylls · 14/07/2011 10:53

Am I the only one to think your head is in the wrong place, OP?

You think your baby is OK but she stops moving "a lot". She sounds in distress. I would arrange another scan as a matter of emergency and forget about Ebay for a while.

SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:53

Squeaky I didn't know you can't link. Shock Should I ask MN to remove the links?

MrSpoc She hadn't told me who she was. So she would have known I didn't know who she was.

In fact... Wait a bloody minute!!! She asked me who I was using my real name.... I use my DP's account. WTF?

OP posts:
SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:54

Larry I have already said I am getting a scan.

OP posts:
TotemPole · 14/07/2011 10:56

squeaky, they don't just hand out contact details to anyone. You need to be in a transaction with the seller/buyer.

OP, could she have contacted a previous buyer. Is anyone bidding on your items at the moment? Maybe she's using another account. Have you put your phone number on a previous listing?

If you can't think of any reason, contact live chat to ask why your phone number was given out.

DogsBestFriend · 14/07/2011 10:56

MrSpoc the OP is pregnant. That kind of prevents her from getting into a fitted wedding dress!

squeakytoy · 14/07/2011 10:56

You can link, but considering the topic of this thread, its possibly sensible NOT to link on this occasion! :)

larrygrylls · 14/07/2011 10:57

Schrodinger.

But when? Today?

There have been numerous threads about movement monitoring and, to put things frankly (sorry), babies dying who could have been saved.

SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:57

Totem There is no one bidding.

OP posts:
TotemPole · 14/07/2011 10:57

Those links don't work. I had to copy and paste into the address bar so there is no referring site for the landing page to pick up.

SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:58

Larry When the hospital give me an appointment which will be in the next couple of days.

I cannot afford a private scan and I know babies die...

OP posts:
M0naLisa · 14/07/2011 10:58

WTF? what do you mean....

In fact... Wait a bloody minute!!! She asked me who I was using my real name.... I use my DP's account. WTF?

So she asked you who you was using HER name?

DogsBestFriend · 14/07/2011 10:59

FGS read what the OP has written!

The pregnant, cannot fit into wedding dress OP is going for a scan.

Today.

DragonAlley · 14/07/2011 10:59

You made a mistake
She was being a twat.

SchrodingersMew · 14/07/2011 10:59

No she asked me who I was using my name. Confused
