Please help me!! I need them to stop, it's been going on all evening and I would like to go to bed soon.

The only thing I've found that works - and it ALWAYS works - is to sit somewhere quiet where you won't be interrupted, breathe slowly and steadily, focus on your internal gut and relax it as much as you can. Just keep thinking about your gut relaxing, resting all soft and gentle inside your body.

Then come back here and tell me it worked Grin

I am relaxing and thinking and even feckin visualising but I can barely type for the hiccuping. DP went to bed before me and I can't inflict my hiccups on him, they are wakey up body shakers.

Spoon of sugar always seems to work on DC.
Drinking out of the wrong side of a cup leaning forwards(if that make sense!) always works for me.

Stand with feet apart, then bend at the waist so your head is upside down and swallow a few times.

This has never failed! You do need another person or a straw.
Get some one to fold your ears over so your voice is echoey (sp?) then take a drink of water at the same time. Hold you own ears and use straw if alone.

Make sure ears are sealed iykwim.

Seriously never not worked. Grin

I think I saw this on a Columbo once and it always works for me.

Take 7 tiny sips of cold water in very very quick succession, hold your breath for a slow count of ten and hopefully....

Shock But my method is FOOLPROOF...

MorticiaAddams · 08/07/2011 23:31

Hairypotter I'm going to do that and I haven't even got hiccups.

alistron1 · 08/07/2011 23:33

I followed tethersends tip and nearly died. People, you can not swallow with yer head betwixt yer legs.

Am now trying the columbo method. Will report back.

Hairypotter, I am alone. I am a rock, I am an island..with hiccups.

Press firmly and steadily with fingertip to the point in the centre of your breastbone (midline between your nipples) until hiccups subside.

It's an acupressure point, usually (but not always) works for me.
If it's going to work I can tell as soon as I apply pressure, the hiccup feeling just seems to dissipate.

alistron1 · 08/07/2011 23:37

HAIRYPOTTER is RIgHT. Do it. Fingers in ears and a pint of water. It works.

(when I was a student it was a pint of lager and it STILL WORKS).

TheLadyHare · 08/07/2011 23:39

alistron

oops, forgot to say you don't take a breath in between your tiny sips, take a breath after sipping and then hold your breath for ten.

TheLadyHare · 08/07/2011 23:41

cross post! Sorry! Pleased it worked for you alistron!

I love Columbo.
