I have just served bannanas and hot custard to the family as pudding. DH says I am weird and it should be served cold.

Members of the jury, am I being unreasonable?

hot or cold I haven't got either Sad

We used to have it cold in those stainless steel dishes, at school with yummy skin on top

Cold custard is the most utterly revolting thing ever! Hot hot hot!

Tchootnika · 08/07/2011 20:30

Fresh fruit and custard's really good. I'm thinking you may have suffered early trauma with custard and jam, lovejoy?
If that's so, then I feel your pain, I really do. Sad

fireboltskinny · 08/07/2011 20:31

mrstimlovejoy you must be getting mixed up with 'fruit with meat is evil'

ProfessorMagnaGonagall · 08/07/2011 20:37

Cold bananas and hot custard here as well

hazeyjane · 08/07/2011 20:38

mmmmm, custard skin.

talking of meat and fruit being evil, my friend went to Heston Blumenthal's restaurant and had a starter called, 'meatfruit'

now that is true evil.

janey68 · 08/07/2011 20:49

Ugh no- bananas on their own, fine. With custard - no way

Florabeebaby · 08/07/2011 20:59

Cold...hot custard is no good, ever!

HHLimbo · 08/07/2011 21:07

Bananas served with custard as pudding MUST be served HOT!

mumnotmachine · 08/07/2011 21:11

I could probably just about hack hot custard on bananas but bananas would need to be cold

deemented · 08/07/2011 21:16

Cold, definately. With hundreds and thousands sprinkled on top.

2rebecca · 08/07/2011 21:25

I prefer both cold but usually make loads so 1 helping with warm custard and then for breakfast with cold custard.

Cutiecat · 08/07/2011 21:27

Cold bananas, hot custard and some hundreds and thousands. Delish.

MonkeyJungleConga · 08/07/2011 21:27

It's known as custard on the rocks in our house.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 08/07/2011 21:49

Obviously cold nanas and hot custard.... Cold custard is the work of the devil.

Custard on the rocks?! Brilliant!

Reminds me that my sister & I used to call banana sandwiches 'Havana Brandishes', come home from school & have a nice mashed Havana brandish & a glass of cold milk, ahhh those were the days

BlueCat2010 · 08/07/2011 21:57

Ewww banana sandwiches? Now that is bleugh!

HHLimbo · 08/07/2011 22:02

But its not pudding if its with cold bananas :(

hazeyjane · 08/07/2011 22:05

Why? Lots of puddings are cold, or have I got my definition of pudding wrong?

Banana sandwiches are heaven, I had them every Saturday for tea, with The Muppets, throughout the late 1970s/early 80s.

nannynick · 08/07/2011 22:09

Hot
That includes the banana.

I microwave banana (well usually 2 bananas) for 1 minute, then add tinned custard and microwave for time it states on the tin.

Lovely... in fact, really fancy some now.

mummylin2495 · 08/07/2011 22:10

Cold banana and hot custard in this house.

BikingViking · 08/07/2011 22:18

Hot custard if given a choice, but not fussy.

actually banana sandwiches are yummy especially when made with nutella too--

While you're all here, best custard recipe?! (i've never actually made custard myself but ought to try Blush - and I prefer Ambrosia to bird's)

bonkers20 · 08/07/2011 22:21

Cold.

echt · 08/07/2011 22:30

God, I haven't thought of bananas and custard for years, but just reading this thread brought the smell and texture rushing back with Proustian intensity.

Apologies for the poncey comparison; I'm teaching a lot of Big Lit this year.:o

HHLimbo · 08/07/2011 23:13

Love the literary flamboyance echt! LOL! Grin
