Haha, oh no SAF, I just have a panic attack instead Grin

BH, haha, oooh, that's something I'd do... I was hooked on mindmaze on Encarta. Or whatever that game's called...

Carminagetsprimal · 05/07/2011 22:35

I never got addicted to games thank god.

DontCallMePeanut · 05/07/2011 22:36

Haha, ahh, you're one of the lucky one's, Carmina... Grin

Carminagetsprimal · 05/07/2011 23:03

'lucky' is not an adjective often thrown my way - so I'll take it and run Grin

Niecie · 05/07/2011 23:14

I had to do an extended essay for the last module of my MSc last year which required on-line research. MN nearly made me fail... and FB games. Blush

If I could have disabled the internet I would have done but I needed it to do the research and strangely the allure of pointless nonsense was soooo much greater than looking up dry academic papers.

Mind you I was no better in the previous module with an exam. I would be sitting there, harvesting my fields on Farmville, muttering to myself how I should be revising. Didn't make any difference. I still reckon I revised at least 50% of what I used in the exam whilst I was sat in the car park waiting for the time to go in.Blush

I did all my exams and essays before the PC really got going.
We only had BBC units with green lettering on a dark green background and no internet or www at all.
Still managed to get distracted.

I did psychology, we called them intensive displacement activities.

I can stay away from a computer easily - it's my iPhone that tempts me.

Empusa · 05/07/2011 23:31

Bloody hell babyheave, Encarta? I'd forgotten all about that!

garlicnutter · 05/07/2011 23:32

I de-registered from my game because I was using it to avoid real-life ... and promptly started spending even more time on Mumsnet Blush
OK, Mumsnet is more connected to RL. But at least I made money from the game!

You're doing the right thing SAF -

I'm falling asleep here so will say g'night

Niecie · 05/07/2011 23:55

My MSc was in psychology and the last module was on how the brain affects behaviour using addiction as an illustration. You'd think I could then have avoided an addiction to all things crap on the internet but no. I seem to remember getting embroiled in a thread similar to this one too - involved and requiring a lot of thought and a fair bit of research. If I could have applied the brain power used on that thread to the studying I'd have finished weeks early and got a disctinction.

I agree life was a whole lot easier 1st time around before the internet was invented. The biggest distraction then was Prisoner Cell Block H and even that could justified because I was doing a law degree.

garlicnutter · 05/07/2011 23:59

Prisoner Cell Block H could justified because I was doing a law degree Grin
Nice try, Niecie!

Lol at prisoner cell block H - I used to love Tenko, now there was a programme with strong resilient women, and pretty groundbreaking considering the era -it's a shame that level of TV didn't continue for women though.

  • 'footballers wives' doesn't quite compare.
sunshineandbooks · 06/07/2011 08:13

At the risk of re-igniting all the bitterness in this thread, please can I direct you all to this site in which our delightful Jamez (men's rights activist) is revelling in the glee at causing such upset on MN.

I would also like to publicly apologise to dittany.

Although she has not been named as such on this thread, it is obvious who everyone was talking about. I tried to 'rise above' that because as a feminist I don't want to put anyone off joining the feminist section and I wanted to engage people. However, this became a witch hunt. Personal attacks are never acceptable. I cannot speak for everyone else, but I feel by ignoring all the personal attacks on this thread I am somehow complicit. It is not a nice feeling. Sad

Pagwatch · 06/07/2011 08:19

Oh I am developing some affection for James.

I particularly love the bit wHere he describes his persona on here as "evil jamez"

He is less noisy about his real persona which is strange little wanky James with his half hearted beard and uncanny likeness to Rucky Gervais' weakling brother.
Way to big yourself up James Grin
I want to cackle at him

Pagwatch · 06/07/2011 08:23

And can I point out that his 'adventures in mumsnet' posts were a call to arms.
He posted on his blog/site asking like minded supporters to turn up and join him.

I think he is regarded as a spewing little fart of a man by the very menz he is trying to impress.

nenevomito · 06/07/2011 08:30

I can still sing the theme tune to Prisoner Cell Block H.

He used to bring me roses
I wish he would again
But that was on the outside
and things were different then

On the inside the sun still shines
and the rain pours down
but the sun and rain are prisoners too
when morning comes around.

Ahhh, I remember watching it and going, It's Madge! It's Madge Ramsay!!

encarta oh yes, I remember being astounded by encarta. Then again, I remember being astounded by Pong and then utterly flabbergasted by Manic Miner.
