"I disagree. IMO the emphasis should be on getting people to stop being violent in the first place."

Yep. For the sake of all the people who can't leave and for those fated to get into them in the future.

Ormirian, what about boys growing up without a father? A lot of poorer inner city boys turn to gang culture because they want male approval - boys don't want to walk around Cath Kidston looking at tea pots fgs. Males want and need good strong guidance from other males.

Animation · 05/07/2011 11:01

Hully was referring to me arse licking I think... or mabe that I've got cream on my nose - secretly eating cream cakes here. Wink

Dittany - don't stop being you!

Hully - that better?

Hullygully · 05/07/2011 11:03

Proles - see, to mee this is all part of the same continuum. Pepole have an agenda and then intepret remarks made by others in the light of it.

My remarks weren't snide, I always speak of love etc because I think it makes things more human and diffuses pointless unpleasantness. And I think laughter is very healing, much more so than sternness.

Separating the misogynist view from the person is disingenuous at best. We all know that.

I don't agree with Milly's summation either, and I don't want this thread to end in a neat little self-congratulatory we've seen off the anti-fems pat on the back. Altho it dows rather prove the point of the thread, I suppose. Shame.

Bennifer · 05/07/2011 11:03

Dittany,

I'm confused, you say misogyny is not like racism, then explain why it is

Hullygully · 05/07/2011 11:04

Animation, yes, it meant you were erring on the brownnosing side. I maintain there is room for humour alongside feminism, apologies to those that don't share that view, but that is your issue, not mine.

Bennifer · 05/07/2011 11:04

Surely, people that hold misogynistic views are misogynists, just like people who hold racist views are racist

"Males want and need good strong guidance from other males."

Yes but when they need it, at an appropriate time, not when other people think they need it. You can't force boys to 'grow up' to your timescale. And I am not sure that gangs can be called 'good strong guidance'. And I am sure there is a great deal of peer pressure in poorer inner city areas that ensure that all boys feel obliged to be hard and aggressive even if it isn't in their natures. And why should 'good strong guidance' be of the fighting, aggressive and physical kind? How about an inspirational teacher as a good role model? Good role model for boys don't have to be grunts.

Hullygully · 05/07/2011 11:06

What are misogynists and racists then? If not people that hold those views?

Stop trying to turn it into a "witch hunt" and such like silly nonsense. What is the point?
