We have been renting this house for a year now. The walls have lots of rising damp leading to condensation mould. On top of this we have SLUGS indoors!

Phoned the letting agent in August last year after discovering the slugs and they told me slugs were harmless and made it sound like I was an idiot for not wanting them on the floors indoors when I have to DCs.

And with regards to the damp they told us to cover the saucepans when cooking, keep windows open and heating on (at all times). Ludacris, if you ask me.

Getting fed up now.

My old house had slugs in the kitchen and there was nothing worse than having the squidge between bare toes so YANBU.

But they are just a symptom of the rising damp which your landlord should address. Damp can lead to health issues, especially in children. Look up the report commissioned by the world health organisation and quote it to them in a formal letter.

My landlord told me to always leave the bathroom door open after having a shower when i complained about water damage even though he knew it was down to a leak from the toilet They will try to get out of repairs if possible so keep at them.

I think you unreasonable to have let this go on for so long!
Its been going on 11 months and its still happening,how many times have you been onto the landlord,I would be on to them every day until it was sorted out

we have lived in houses with slugs and survived :o

cover saucepans, open windows and put salt where they come in to stop them in their tracks

it's not nice but you need to do something proactive to get rid of them

I would not have moved there in the 1st place especially as I have kids,their health and safety is paramount,it was probably damp and mouldy when you moved in but you still moved in

I have slugs in the house sometime. One time I went in the kitchen in the middle of the night and there was one on the wall, nearly as high as the ceiling. I had to stand on a chair to knock it down.

I suffered years of hearing the condensation excuse for damp in my flat. Even had a survey that blamed "bedroom activities"! Eventually my bathroom ceiling came down due to the water leak in the upstairs flat that had been going on for all that time.

I lived in a garden flat where slugs were a problem. My biggest worry was that DS (he was under 3 at the time) would put them in his mouth.

Salt outside your doors will keep them away to an extent. If your agent/landlord is refusing to do anything about the damp, speak to your local council's environmental health. They can make them sort out damp caused by building faults (but not condensation so make very sure it isn't that).

We have a problem with them sneaking in from who knows where, there's nothing worse than the remains of the stepped on and trying to work out who did it

But if someone did keep them as pets, you could bet your bottom dollar that some twat would be starting up a thread on AIBU lamenting the fact that the slugs are sliming in their garden

My friends boyfriend breeds giant African land snails for pets, Very odd.

Get environmental health people out. My mum had to and they wrote her a letter to say she needed special ventilation (it sorted very quickly after the letter was written. Mould is horrible!

A slug is not just for Christmas....

We moved in in summer, it hadn't rained in weeks and there were no signs of rising damp (which seems to only show after rain), mould or slugs.

Are trying to find something else but it's difficult in this area. Wish they would just sort the problem out so we could stay and didn't have the hassle of moving again.

You could also use nemaslug on all the soil outside, I use this in my garden as we have dogs and it is fab. wont solve all the probs tho.
