dshas aspergers...my mum says he has behaviour problems because of discipline... she wont accept that its a real thing, he just needs more discipline! she tells people he has behavioural problems, but hes good at grandmas house because he knows he cant mess her around,.... he behaves at grandmas house because she leaves him onthe computer/wii in the other room so that he doesnt bother her, you cant misbehave if theres no rules

I had the same problem with my late FIL. My ds1 has adhd and FIL said that all the problems were just down to discipline. The problem completely ruined my relationship with FIL as he was always having a go at me because he just didn't see what was going on.

Perhaps you could try giving your mum some literature to read about the subject. That might help her to understand and accept the situation.

My son also has Aspergers, he is now 26. My Ex (who left when son was 4) has NEVER accepted that he has this. I bought books (Ex refused to read them), and tried to involve him in all decisions with CAHMS, school, Child Development Centre. My son has been receiving DLA since the age of 8.

All this has made no difference to Ex. Now son is older the Ex is always nagging about his lack of GCEs, college, work etc. He makes no concessions for the fact that son has no friends and still lives at home (he should be out socialising and living on his own).

You just can't win with some people. The only thing you can do ignore, ignore, ignore and do your very best for your son that you can, like I have.

My son has a malformation of his skull... (you cant see it) he has had brain scans, neurology reports ped's appointments and now been refered to a neuro surgeon.... my mum thinks his crys because i picked him up all the time when he was young..... and in fact there is nothing wrong with him at all......

You just cant change some people . . . . . . .

Could you maybe get her a book to read about it or would that nor go down too well?
