Just wondering why its seen as acceptable for Lady gaga to dance around naked but rihanna and britney get a load of stick they have to be good role models whereas anything goes it seems with lady gaga

I'm not usre re: Rihanna as I wouldn't have thought a lot of her songs would suitable for preteens/younger teens. I have no idea what Britney is upto these days, so can't comment.

Also could it because Lady GaGa has a very obvious 'style' of her own and the underdressing is clearly more about expressing herself and her individuality and nothing to do with sex appeal. I'd rather Lady GaGa as a role model than Rihanna or Beyonce etc.

See what you mean but she doesn't act the victim. My 72 dad likes her. OMG - growing up with him (I'm my my 40's) and he insisted blaring out classical music. He has a teenage daughter and thinks that at least gaga doesn't do the I'm a sexy victim thing. He rates her - as being a bit different from the usual way young female stars like to portray themselves.

I'm not that fussed about her. She'd be better if she remembered to get dressed.First couple of singles were good but now she's doing the beyonce thing of just churning out same old same old pop tripe - but at least beyonce is a great singer. Rhiana is the 2011 verson of Kylie with stock, aitken and waterman imo. So is beyonce - but the woman can really bloody sing.

Lady Gaga does not strip for the male gaze, she does it for her self, and usually shocking, expression. Lady Gaga does not promote herself through her sexual availability or attractiveness to men, moreso on her image (high and freaky fashion) and talent. Rhianna and Britney are reduced to their appeal to men.

I think they should all stop it. They make enough money to afford clothes, for crying out loud. I hate the fact that pop 'music' is basically just musical porn these days.

I swear to god that in another 10 years, the pop videos will all consist of close up glistening fanny shots set to music.

Whatever happened to actual music? You know, with actual singing and proper instruments being played by musicians? I'm sure it was around here somewhere at some point. Has anyone checked down the sofa?

I really dislike ladygaga. I hate how she dresses (or undresses). I find her really tacky. I also think her ridiculous outfits are to detract from her looks not being as good as many others in the charts (not that it should matter).

'Fraid I don't find get her state of undress as shock as opposed to soft porn. But perhaps that's because I'm middle aged. I don't mind ga ga but her 'shock' value will up as her musical ideas dry up.

If her listened to her music without ever seeing a video you'd see what I mean.

Haha, I knew someone would say that. It doesn't matter at all. I just think that is why she has chosen to dress so strangely. I think it was her way of standing out.

DIfferent motivations I guess. She does things as self-expression rather than wank fodder. I'd rather listen to her than Beyonce or her ilk. But maybe there lies the difference - music for my generation was much more about listening than looking.

Although there is a cyncical part of me that thinks the fact that naked flesh stimulates publicity and sells music whatever it's motivation.

I don't think she is expressing herself at all. I think she is attention seeking to the extreme. I would prefer to listen to Beyonce. She has a better voice (IMO)

I think any musician, pop, has an image....it's part of the package. Even Adele is 'defined' by something, just happens to be her weight.

Wouldn't it be great if they were defined by musical ability (or lack thereof) and not how much of their fanny you can actually make out as they thrust at you in their videos?

I think Lady Gaga is very artistic with her various states of undress. Rihanna and Britney do tacky-come-hither crap especially Britney.

I found myself horrified recently at ds (5) knowing all the words to Rihanna's S&M and also the words in the new Bruno Mars song having reference to 'having nice sex' and ds knowing those words too! That bothers me more than the state of undress they go onstage in because ds is too young to see that, but he hears their songs daily on the radio!

She may not strip for the male gaze (how can you tell?), but I wish she didn't feel the need to do it so often, nor use a selection of costumes that make it so obvious that she has no pubic hair at all.

I don't think she's that artistic just needs to go one better than madonna really. But I don't dislike her. Just don't find her artistic particularly and would laugh at the thought of finding any message in her 'musik'.
