to keep not own up to getting a whole tank of fuel for £1?

Ds and I went to the supermarket on Friday. By the time we had finished our shop he was pretty overtired so was screaming before we got to the petrol station. I usually take him in with me but did pay at the pump as I wanted to get moving so he would sleep.

I put in ny card and pin, it said I could spend up to £100. I filled the tank with diesel, clicked 'no' to collecting points or wanting a receipt, got in the car and drove off. The full tank came to somewhere over £70.

Tonight I checked my online banking and found a dodgy looking point of sale transaction for £1. I called the bank who said it was from the Supermarket Petrol station at 1:15 on Fri afternoon. There are definitely no other fuel related transactions.

AIBU to just keep quiet about the whole thing?

I'm generally very honest about these types of things, but I'm stone broke with half a tank of fuel and no money until Thursday. I'd thank my lucky stars and keep mum.

If it was only Friday the proper transaction might not have come through yet. The £1 might have been taken to check your card before allowing you fuel. I'm not sure if that is how it works but just in case, I wouldn't get too excited yet!

Yep Jeely's right! The transaction will come through.

The pay at pumps only take £1 at the time of transaction, the rest comes out a couple of days later, sorry!

LordSucre · 27/06/2011 06:53

i have never noticed a £1 only when i have filled up with pay at pump. Only the full amount. If you are only charged a £1 then good for you! I would be delighted.

Zingylemontart · 27/06/2011 07:05

I've only ever noticed the full amount on my statement when I've paid at the pump, BUT my DH has had his card cloned twice now, and both times they start off with a pound or two on a couple of transactions, and the bank told us they often do this to see if the account holder is keeping an eye on their account. Hope you've just dropped lucky this time, though.

The £1 only shows for the first couple of days until the full cost comes off your account it is a test to see if there's money in your account, the cashier at the bank told me. If you don't get mini statements regularly you don't notice this.
