To think that leggings are not the same as trousers....

And if you are going to wear them please for the love of god wear a top that covers your bum. I've lost count of the amount of women I've seen recently wearing short tops and leggings and it just looks WRONG! Not also counting the fact that most leggings are see through so showing their pants off too!

It really bugs me

I think people can wear whatever they like

spiderlight · 26/06/2011 19:31

A larger lady in leggings and a short top got off the bus the other day and my four-year-old son sagely informed me (thankfully after the bus doors had shot!) that 'Those trousers are caleld Jiggly Joggers, mummy' :o

spiderlight · 26/06/2011 19:31

*called

Purplebuns · 26/06/2011 19:34

My two year old looks really cute with her patterned leggings and a top on, hers are thick cotton and not see through though.
In my town it is only larger women/teens that seem to wear leggings a trousers, do they not know you can see everything even if they aren't see through?

  • THIS IS NOT AN AIBU QUESTION YOU SILLY BILLY *
CaptainBizarro · 26/06/2011 19:38

Of course people can wear whatever they like.

Quite why people want to put their fulsome arse out there to be judged (and found wanting) is the question, though...

Jellykat · 26/06/2011 19:38

Why not bibbity ???

usualsuspect · 26/06/2011 19:39

I'm loving your work ,bibbitybobbityhat Grin

RabidRabbit · 26/06/2011 19:42

Well I wore black leggings today, with black canvas ballerina pumps and a nude pink longline (but not arse covering) tank top - I am 25 and a size 10/12. Must have put quite a few people off their lunches Hmm

Bloody hell. People can wear whatever they hell they are comfortable in. The 'fatties' (used to be size 22 one) struggle enough finding comfortable clothes without the worry of the Fat Fashion Police boaking down their neck should they dare bare their arse, the absolute cheek of them! No pun intended.

MarioandLuigi · 26/06/2011 19:48

The problem with leggins is that if you get cheaper ones they stretch until they are almost see through which isnt a good look, especially when you are wearing white knickers underneath.

CaptainBizarro · 26/06/2011 19:52

But you wouldn't wear opaque tights without covering your behind - how are leggings different?

Both are completely 100% fitted, slightly see-through when stretched and reveal every lump and bump.

They're an under-garment. I don't think there's anything offensive in suggesting people put their arses, however nice, away...

glassescase · 26/06/2011 19:54

Somtimes there's more than underwear on view....

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/06/2011 19:54

I didn't realise that a 'fat bird's' camel toe was more offensive than a skinny bird's. I don't want to see any, even if they are a catwalk model.

And people did wear short tops with leggings in the 80's, more so than now I think.

RabidRabbit · 26/06/2011 19:59

Cheap leggings go see through, ones that are too small (which they often are, people buy smaller because they stretch) go see through, but good quality leggings of a proper size are not offensive in any way in my opinion.

CaptainBizarro · 26/06/2011 20:07

Do people need to see every contour of your arse cheeks? I know some trousers are often very tight and fitted but they usually have enough structure so that you can't see every wibble-wobble when you walk. And everyone wibbles when they walk, even the sub-size-10ers.

I'm not sure what's wrong with a slim-line top which just covers the arse area. Even on someone slim it's so much more flattering, giving a cleaner line. Yes, I know, at 'cleaner line' - it sounds so wanky, but it's true nonetheless.

Mspontipine · 27/06/2011 00:12

Yes peeps did wear leggings in the 80s as trousers without a dress/skirt covering them sometimes. I know I did - even had bright yellow ones but I was a size skinny then!! I love the look of leggings and dresses etc. I think it even looks nice on bigger people (as I am now) but always vowed would never wear them again after the 1st time. Isn't it a law that if you were around for a fashion the 1st time you're too old to do it the next time.

seasalt · 27/06/2011 00:23

The leggings in the 80's/90's were made of much thicker material and were not see-through.

Mspontipine · 27/06/2011 00:37

Think you're right seasalt. The Pamplelmousse ones were anyway. You'd never have seen my pants through them either as I believe at that time I didn't wear any Wink

royaljelly · 27/06/2011 00:41

sz 8 / 10 with short top and same colour underwear =OK. other sizes long bum skimming top please. and still same col. undies.

wherearemysocks · 27/06/2011 00:57

It really does seem to be a growing trend recently, and its definately the thin, cheapo ones that are so wrong. I wear them, sometimes with a short top when I go out running, but they are the thick proper sports ones, I would be horrified if people could see my bum through them.

custardismyhamster · 27/06/2011 01:01

I wear my leggings to work out (in my living room, with just a sports bra on my top half, because I get FAR TOO HOT otherwise)

However, I do this with the curtains closed, because no one needs to see my flab!

I also, when it's cold, wear leggings and a baggy t-shirt to sleep in. Have never worn them outside the house.

I'm a size 16 if thats relevant :)

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/06/2011 01:10

Grin at bibbity.
Am now looking out for you on all AIBUs.

biscuitmad · 27/06/2011 01:22

leggings are okay indoors. Outdoors i hate them you can see peoples arses, knickers lines and they look bloody awful. Unless you are a size 8 they make you look like a right fat cow. HATE them burn them all!!!!

ilovedora27 · 27/06/2011 06:57

captainbizarro - Everyone doesnt wibble when they walk. Some people just arent big enough to or are very toned. If you are a uk size 6ish then you wont wibble.

charliejosh · 27/06/2011 11:37

If you havent got the hoofage problem and you have toned bum and legs then I think it looks great wearing leggings with a shorter top
