to be upset by their reactions to his name?

DS is nearly 2, and everytime I tell someone his full name, they make a face :( Our families, friends, and now people we meet at playgroups and nursery.

It's a fairly unusual first name, but really common middle name, and for some reason everyone finds it fun to snigger at him. I'm starting to worry that he'll be bullied for it at school. DP says to ignore them, and that they are just jealous that his name stands out from the crowd, but I can't help being upset by it :( I'm thinking even about stopping using his first name altogether.
AIBU to wish people would just accept him?

But it sounds like ludicrous.
(Assume this is another silly name thread?)

OTheHugeManatee · 23/06/2011 13:41

Ludo Chris? Is this a windup?

featherbag · 23/06/2011 13:41

This is a joke post, right?!

lucidlady · 23/06/2011 13:41

Are you introducing him as Ludo-Chris? Or as Ludo? I really like Ludo as a name in its own right, but I can understand why people are raising their eyebrows if it's paired with Chris. Are you able to drop the Chris and just use Ludo?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 23/06/2011 13:41

Is he friends with sausage stanley from yesterday's crap thread

DELHI · 23/06/2011 13:41

Ludo Chris - are you serious??? Sorry but I'm not surprised people laugh.

NightLark · 23/06/2011 13:41

you do realise that pretty much says 'ludicrous' if you say them together, don't you? I certainly wouldn't go telling people both names, just choose one and stick with it.

HeidiKat · 23/06/2011 13:41

Ludo Chris? If this is for real, did you seriously not ever think to say the two names out loud together before committing to it. Of course you have the right to call your child whatever you want but equally others have a right to express their opinion on it.

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 23/06/2011 13:41

Oh, I thought it might be Stu

Middle name Pidd

mintymellons · 23/06/2011 13:41

Oh no, now I feel Blush if this is a wind up!

Didn't take much notice of the Chris bit.

Crosshair · 23/06/2011 13:42

Cool name, not keen on the two together but Im not a fan of middle names.

Im sure I used to have a game called ludo as a kid.(Abit random but the first thing that came to mind)

I always found that kids with different names are often fairly confident and popular.

BalloonSlayer · 23/06/2011 13:42
Grin

Takes me back to when we were name-hunting for DC1, I said around the dinner table: "You should SEE the names they've got in the books. Names that no one's ever going to use. They've got Attilla ... Adolf ... They're ludicrous."

My BIL piped up: "Ludicrous is quite a good name."

So he wouldn't pull a face at you.

glitterkitten · 23/06/2011 13:42

NFW!

this has GOT to be a joke!!!

made me nearly spit my tea out!

BootyMum · 23/06/2011 13:42

I'm trying to think of an unusual boy's first name but common middle name and failing...

Not James or John - these are common middle names but also fairly common first names...

Any unusual first names I can think of like Cedric or Percival are not common middle names AFAIK...

I think you'll have to post your DS's name to get a response whether YABU or YANBU. But you'll have to be prepared for honest responses - some posters will hate it, some think it's a bit meh but others may love it!

But really what does it matter what we think. And I really can't think of a name "bad" enough that a child would get teased. Unless he is named after somebody notorious and unpopular - like Adolf or Osama...?

PanicMode · 23/06/2011 13:42

Ludo is fine, but when you said Chris is the second name, I smell a rat - so have a Biscuit.

Unless you genuinely made a mistake like my cousin's friend whose twins are Ella and Sam

Crosshair · 23/06/2011 13:42

oh Blush

Ziggimajiggi · 23/06/2011 13:42

YANBU
I have an unusual name and I love it! It will become part of who he is. If you feel bad about it you might give him a complex...stop giving the full name and embrace the joy of Ludo :)

cuteboots · 23/06/2011 13:43

Ahh! I see where the name is going now.

Hullygully · 23/06/2011 13:44

Have you thought of Randloph?

Ziggimajiggi · 23/06/2011 13:44

Oh! Just worked it out! Ha ha!

BootyMum · 23/06/2011 13:45

Whoops X-posted Blush

glitterkitten · 23/06/2011 13:45
