To think all GP support staff are rude and evil!

Grr. Just come back from my GPs. On Monday I telephoned to ask for a GP apointment before Friday, the receptionist gleefully told me there were none. She then insisted there was only one nurse's appointment all week free and that was in my working day. When I said that was not convenient she moaned and groaned and fond me another at 6pm today. When I go;t there the nurse told me the receptionist should have asked me to make a AP's appointment, then proceeded to give me advice which contravenes the NICE guidance on the subject. When I pointed this out she was very stroppy with me. Why are receptionsists so rude and unhelpful? and why do nurses, who want to assume a professonal role never have up to date clinical evidence to support the nonsense they spout at you! And lastly why did they tell me they had no appointments when one of the lovely GPs came out ofhis room and announced to the receptionist that he was pleased he could go home early as it was quiet!!!

Clearly GPs are aware of what's going on in their practices, and are complicit in it.

AnyFucker · 22/06/2011 20:26

sultan, OP is eulogising doctors and dismissing those with "lesser qualifications"

haven't you read the OP ?

VivaLeBeaver · 22/06/2011 20:27

I wouldn't say that what iwAntanotherbaby spoke about was vengeful. Not at all. Any light hearted competition to see who has the rudest encounter is simply a coping mechanism. Flagging up rude patients on the gp computer system is good sense to forwarn the gp that the patient may get rude or aggressive. I don't see anything in her post suggesting that the staff are purposefully winding the patients up to get them to be rude. Not sure where you get that from.

And higgle, surely if you're an intelligent person involved in research you will realise that finding individual stories of crap nursing practice (especially daily mail stories) does not mean that all nursing staff are.........what did you say "rude and evil"

Aribert Heim, otherwise known as "Dr Death"

SultanV · 22/06/2011 20:28

I think you are right in that the OP will be wasting her time if she tries to raise it with the lead GP. She would be better off keeping schtum and avoiding the practice as much as possible.

RevoltingPeasant · 22/06/2011 20:29

SultanV · 22/06/2011 20:30

Well, do you think the GP will do anything in response to a complaint?

RevoltingPeasant · 22/06/2011 20:31

xpost with AnyFucker.

Burke and Hare? They weren't doctors, but they did work for them.

Or does that make them lesser-qualified support staff?

VivaLeBeaver · 22/06/2011 20:32

I could keep going all evening.

Google shows a lot of shit, incompetent and negligent drs who have been struck off. Which of course illustrates that all drs are evil, rude and dangerous.

The locum out of hours dr who gave me a totally unnecessary and unchaperoned vaginal examination twelve years ago.

berylmuspratt · 22/06/2011 20:45

Mine are nice but I have met some not nice ones in the past. Must admit though a doctors receptionist isn't a job I'd fancy as I bet you get a lot of abuse.

AnyFucker · 22/06/2011 20:50

dentists ?

don't start me on dentists

highly trained, highly paid, high status with lots of qualifications

my dentist when I was a teenager was convicted of sexually assaulting female patients after convincing them they were very nervous and needed IV Valium to get through the trauma of having a filling

he instructed his "lesser qualified" dental assistant to leave the room at strategic points

she is the one who shopped him

AnyFucker · 22/06/2011 20:52

The expert gynaecologist who told me at age 27 I would never have children

it was the unqualified HCA who dried my tears and advised me to seek a 2nd opinion

I did

I have 2 children Smile

AnyFucker · 22/06/2011 20:53

btw, this is in no way an attack on all doctors

am just making a point, am sure you can see that (in relation to the OP)

one the OP doesn't see, obviously
