Not sure how old is old - but my Dad listens to 1970s progressive rock (eg Genesis, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum - I love it, and not ashamed to admit it! I even like the older stuff like the Beatles, the Who, Rolling Stones. And why not? Most contemporary music is crap (imho).

TimeWasting · 18/06/2011 16:08

Why would anyone think it was unreasonable?

usualsuspect · 18/06/2011 16:10

You can like what you want really

not at all. you have the right to listen to whatever you want. Most contemporary music is crap. I agree. My fav is Queen and other rock bands. Especially 70s and 80s.

Pumpernickel10 · 18/06/2011 16:15

I'm an old rocker so I love Queen, black sabbath, led zeppelin, Marc Bolan.

meditrina · 18/06/2011 16:36

Well I am 34 and love stuff by the Drifters, Bobby Vinton, Bobby Helms, Neil Sedaka, Sam Cooke you get the picture. Now that is old.

pigletmania · 18/06/2011 17:31

1950's were talking about Smile

thefirstMrsDeVere · 18/06/2011 17:31

Billie Holiday is the bomb - FACT

But yes she is old

I like the Doors, Hendrix, Pink Floyd

Bessie Smith, Duke Ellington, and Billie who is the queen of music.

The newest stuff I like is pretty old.

I am rubbish and new music. ALthough I totally heart Amy Winehouse but then she sounds old.

I am a bit of a failure at being down with the kids.

pigletmania · 18/06/2011 17:32

Calendar girl, Duke of Earl, Special Angel, Some kind of Wonderful lovely timeless music

meditrina · 18/06/2011 17:40

How about Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, early Elvis, The Everley Brothers, Buddy Holly?

meditrina · 18/06/2011 17:41

Or modern music that channels an earlier age: the soundtrack from "Grease" and anything by Showaddywaddy?

roguepixie · 18/06/2011 17:43

Good grief ... nena 's 'old'. I thought you were going to say you liked George Formby fgs.

Nena is not old in my obviously very ancient world.

Btw - The Who, early Stones, Deep Purple, Led Zep etc are all very current in our house. Grin

RufusTFirefly · 18/06/2011 17:55

theFirst, we must be soulmates. I got into jazz when I was seven and got a lot of stick from my friends for it, but I didn't care. First heard a Lady Day (B Holiday's nickname) recording when I was eleven. I love her totally. Began to sing with bands when I was 21 and got a lot of stick from some musicians for copying her. Quite right too. I sing like me these days, but I still love her. And Anita O'day, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and loads of others. Not to mention all the instrumentalists. I love Amy W too and do hope she stops fannying about and gets back into the studio.

OP, like what you want, listen to what you want and to hell with anyone who calls you out on it. After all, nobody quibbles if someone likes Beethoven, Bach etc. do they?
