...according to Phillip Davies MP. It's almost as though he's implying that disabled workers should come cheap, rather like faulty goods that are sold at discount. I pity his constituents.

I know this is not something to admit on these pages but can I just say that I am a Tory and he's a C...

Get the fuck out of my party, wanker.

As PainSnail said, he belongs in the Nazi Party and actually not just for the views he expressed today, he's a homophobic fucker too.

mumofjay · 17/06/2011 22:03

Interesting link MarioandLuigi. Not only is he disablist but he also seems to be a little bit racist too. What a lovely man :-/

What a tosser.

Empusa · 17/06/2011 22:06

Add sexist to that rapidly growing list of his admirable qualities :(

Shoesytwoesy · 17/06/2011 22:06

mumofjay love your post about piedro boots, yep that is what he needs

FreudianSlipper · 17/06/2011 22:16

unbelievable

i thought we had rid ourselves of this type of tory mp years ago, sadly not. far too many of them seem to totally lack any sort of empathy

ndume · 18/06/2011 18:04

I was going to ask if its ok to email him MNers responses but after reading more about him I realised he's rotten to the core. I feel sorry for those who voted for him.

weblette · 18/06/2011 18:11

What an utter wanker.
Maybe we should start out own 'Better Off Out' campaign to get rid of him...

gallicgirl · 18/06/2011 18:22

By his way of thinking, lazy people should also be paid less as they're not as productive but employment doesn't work like that.

What an idiot.

Dread to think what he thinks about women.

microserf · 18/06/2011 18:23

what a prick. i thought nothing could shock me from a tory, but this has proved me wrong.

next he'll be mooting reintroducing the workhouses and debtors' prisons...

exoticfruits · 18/06/2011 18:32

The fact that, for once, everyone is in agreement should tell him something.

somethingwitty82 · 18/06/2011 18:34

Sure, I'll play devils advocate.

Perhaps he though A job with some income is better than no job with no income, no work friends and feeling apart from society.

We had a lovely chap who was learning disabled who worked in a restaurant, everyone did everything on a rota, tills, cooking, stock, chemicals, cleaning, etc but his job was wiping the tables and collecting the trays and he loved it, he was super friendly and chatty and was invited to all staff nights out, birthdays celebrations etc but as soon as the contract was re tendered and satan did time and motions studies he was deemed economically efficient and binned after 18 years! He was gutted and offered to work for free because it gave him, independence and structure and friends and all the things many take for granted.

Im sure he would have like the opportunity. As long as the money earned did not reduced other entitlements/benefits this could have been good. Particulary for sole traders and the likes.

ndume · 18/06/2011 18:49

At somethingwitty82, why wasn't he employed as a table cleaner and be paid accordingly, so that if a non disabled person applied for the same job then that's what they will be paid.

I agree a job with some income whether disabled or not is better that no income, but that's not the same as paying a disabled less money than if they were not disabled.

Therefore I don't think you are playing a devil's advocate, you support the twat's concept.

somethingwitty82 · 18/06/2011 19:00

There existed no 'table cleaner' role, it was just done in addition to normal duties.

Its not paying "a disabled less money than if they were not disabled" its in recognition of less duties/responsibilities

Clearly if the person ability to do the job is unaffected then it should not apply nor should they be forced into work but how many people with downs syndrome are employed vs though are encouraged to volunteer in charity shops in order to give them a work/social life

This rigid inflexibility is keeping good people down

keepingupwiththejoneses · 18/06/2011 19:07

The Dame is right, I think most tories like on another planet. Total idiot!

Urgh there aren't the words to day what I think of this man!

There are so many reasons why this is wrong.

Disabled people has the same or often higher living costs so how can they be expected to live on less than everyone else?

Employers could bully/ manipulate/ lie to people who may be vulnerable to get them to accept lower wages, how can they police this?

Who decides what level of ability/ disability qualifies a person to work for lower than minimum wage? And if some members of society are allowed to work for less than minimum wage then there is in fact no minimum wage.

MarioandLuigi · 18/06/2011 20:23

I have sent an email, doubt I will get a reply though.

somethingwitty82 · 19/06/2011 09:52

Whatever next, before we know it we'll be paying under 21s less, and under 18s even less than that and apprentices even less than that (£2.50)and interns will have to work for free.

People are already paid less in order to get them into work, when the alternative is being unemployed for 30 years can anyone think of an effective alternative?

What is the censorship policy-no censorship as long as you repeat the mn mantra

labour good, torys bad, baaaaaa

LoveMyOscar · 19/06/2011 09:54

He is a right knob head. How about wankers like him drop their freaking sky high pay and accept the minimum wage, merely for being tossers.

flippinada · 19/06/2011 09:58

I was amazed that someone came on thread to defend this horrible man, then I remembered this is AIBU.

OP, YANBU.

somethingwitty this isn;t about people who are training or still growing as with u21s. It is about adult competent people who may have been doing the job for 25 years pre disability and the bigotry of some people who refuse to accept that disability does not equal inability to work in all cases.

DS1 has AS, and an immense talent. My friend is an IT programmer at a university who ahppens to have CP. theya re both competent (we;ll, ds1 will be). Why would they deserve less than someone of equal competence?

Pay should be set at level of competence and value of person as a staff member and nothing else. Bogotry should be addressed fior what it is and not dressed up as a solution to people's problems.

AS for teh tory / labour thing- well plenty of tories on MN, some on this thread, but you know- if you don;t like MN....

somethingwitty82 · 19/06/2011 10:19

Who cares if hes a troglodyte or a Tory, petty tribalism is reason the county is in a mess.

He took the time to visit MIND and reiterated one of their suggestions, put his kneck on the line to try and make a positive difference in peoples lives.

What did labour do to help people get into work? They talk about dignity but dont give a shit, they want disabled people to be out of work, passive, dependent, client state votes and all their familys. Labour are EA

And fuck John Bercow, the massive racist
