iT LOOKS AS THOUGH ITS ON HTE WAy out....is it? The Logans have a race horse. They will have an opinion on whipping. Some jockeys get suspended for excess. I have been against for years

I don't think they should be suspended - I think they should forfeit the race, - then the jockeys who are persistent offenders wouldn't find it so easy to get work. Whipping horses is disgusting.

Logan has a Kew fete listed on her twitter. Ask her how she feel about whipping horses?

ITA. It's wrong. I have never, ever, ever had the need to whip a horse. It cause much bemusement in the school! I've never raced though, so maybe I'm not qualified to comment, but it's still wrong, wrong, wrong.

Richard Hughes was interviewed about this at Ascot today and did make some good points for the other side eg the whip is heavily padded and doesn't 'hurt' the horse as such; the fact itcan aid safety when used to steer horse etc. However he did agree that excessive use should be penalised and inferred it was the sign of a bad jockey.

Don't know where I stand on this but I'd like to see a whip in RL to see how padded it really is.

How the fucking hell can anyone expect that a whip doesn't hurt the horse??? Horses have such sensitive skin that they can feel a fly landing on it and shake sections of their skin to get rid of the fly. Just because horses are big animals, people think that the whips don't hurt them. Bollocks. The whips aren't even that heavily padded either and even if they were it would probably just make them hurt the poor horses more.

Whips in the horse racing industry are NOT used as a safety aid, they are used to force the horse to go faster when they are getting towards the end of the race and are tired. The kind of whip that is used to steer a horse is called a schooling whip and is much longer and very light and is/should NEVER be used to force a horse or punish them, they are used as an extension of your leg and applied very lightly to the horses side.

Excessive use of the whip should be punished, by the RSPCA and the jockey should be banned for racing and owning animals for life IMO as they obviously have no love or respect for animals.

I probably should point out that I'm coming from a very biased point of view as I own 2 ex-racehorses who had been seriously mistreated at the hands of the racing industry.

Browncoats you just said what I was going to say about whips NOT being for 'steering horses'; good riders who know what they're doing steer their horses by riding them properly.
