to be told 'sorry' for parking across my drive?

Neighbours parents parked across my drive so could not get in, loads of other places in the road to park so no idea why, DS knocked on the door and politely asked for them to move the car so I could get on the drive; wanted to reverse on, boot full of shoopping, kids and kids school stuff, not wanting to park over the road and carry it all across the road.

The Dad came out and did not say a word and move the car three feet forward so I could get in.

So rude A - to do it in the first place B - not to say sorry, AIBU?

We get this all the time and people using the drive to turn on. Does my head in. People seem to think it is their god given right to park/turn where they damn well please. Never had apologies here either.

Re turning in your drive - does it do any harm????

Neighbour in our old house used to complain about people turning in road outside our house - he wanted a no entry sign put up and was Angry that council had adopted the road so it was a public road. Mad old fool

It's always wrong to park across someone's drive because it's rude and thoughtless but if I got bothered about my drive being used to turn in then I suspect I'd have lost all reason long ago.

Even if there wasnt anywhere else to park its illegal to block someone elses drive! Take a picture on your phone next time and tell them you will take it to the police station if it ever happens again.

This happens to us all the time & people look at you like you are unreasonable to want to use your own drive. I had to cancel a mortgage appointment once as I couldn't get OFF my drive. I tell you, I was steaming angry! And even angrier when the police did sod all (came out, but were useless) & then I damn well missed giving the owner a mouthful when she deigned to turn up and move it!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Thanks all, glad AINBU, and FYI there were plenty of other places to park.

Why are people so thoughtless and rude, I will never get it as long as I live. They just must be thick ignorant and stupid.

I would never just block someone's drive just to block someones drive.

when i first moved in here, parking was unassigned and i drove in to park in my usual space only to find someone else had parked there. no issue at all, so i turned to find another space, except when turning, i had to reverse a bit into someone else's space (although unassigned, they felt it was theirs). once i had found a space i got out and as i was walking over to my house teh owner of teh space i reversed onto came out and told me not to use their space for turning. i told them i had no choice as i was facing teh wrong way to get out and he said it would damage the tarmac!! i rolled my eyes at him aswell fimbo

Our neighbours over the road sometimes park on the pavement outside our house, part way over our driveway access, but that's only while they quickly unload their shopping, and they did ask first, and they're nice people. It's a fairly narrow, one-way road, with sometimes not-a-lot of spaces. Our house is on the right-hand side of the road, and they park part way over our driveway so they can leap out of the driver's seat, run round to the boot, grab the shopping, etc. If ever we're out there at the time, they always say: sorry, won't be long; and we always say: no problem.

The worst one, however, was a car that parked up on the pavement, completely blocking the driveway which is our only way in or out onto the pavement. We have railings either side of the driveway, but he'd parked so tight in and right across the driveway that the only way I could have got out was to have climbed over either the bonnet or the boot - which he must have realised has the only way he could've got out of his car was via the passenger door.

I didn't see him park, but I did see the obvious culprit at the door of another neighbour over the road, and I recognised him. So I wrote a note which I put under his windscreen wiper pointing out that not only had he blocked me in, but had also prevented even the ambulance service getting in a stretcher if needed. He was my former GP, but I'd changed surgeries years before, and not solely because he was an arrogant git.

I'd burst him. Cheeky fuck. Some council lads left a machine accross my drive today. They left it there while they worked accross the road. Went to turn in (while inconveniencing other road users on both sides who stopped for me) and nearly ran it over.....I had to get out and move the blerdy thing...Was blunt with them. They didn't give a fuck. GAH Angry

3Boys in your situation I'd have been sorely tempted to smash the driver window, release the handbrake and move the car a few metres down the road. Grin

I wouldn't turn in someone's drive. People might think it does no harm, only takes a second, etc but what if you're sat in your front room and there is a car turning in your drive every 5 mins - it would be very annoying. Obviously if you have a very long drive then maybe its not as annoying but my drive is the length of a car so if cars were turning in it all the time it would be intrusive and noisy.

I get people parking over my drive all the time. I often have to go in the shop or post office and yell for "whoever has X car come and shift it NOW". People come out muttering that they were only a few minutes. Well yes but the person before you was a few minutes and so was the next person and the next person and my drive is blocked for half the fucking day.

Someone in a van turned in our driveway once and smashed in the back of the new car I'd had less than a month. Then they drove off, leaving me to pay for the repairs Angry

Yes, it is rude. And people who move their cars a miserly amount when you need to get through always annoy me - a bloke last week sat at his wheel watching me reverse into a tight space behind him then drove off. Angry. I mean, why make it unnecessarily difficult for someone else?

They should have said sorry too - bit of courtesy doesn't cost, does it?

When nighbours come back of their hols I am going to tell her to tell her dad not to keep parking across our drive, three times in the lst 10 days, ignorant twat! I may however user more tactfull language.

What if you use the drop kerb to turn but not the actual drive, is that ok? I never use someones actual drive but do go up onto the pavement, otherwise in some roads it would take a 100 manuvore (sp?) turn to get round.
