So i am having a tonsillectomy (sp?) tomorrow as i get tonsillitas (sp?) once a month and its getting stupid...

Not sure why i am scared (probably because i googled it Shock) I have had lots of surgery before but its all been emergency.. For some reason i have in my head i am going to die on the table and never see DD again!

Any words of wisdom? A kick up the arse? a google ban

I am having this on Monday :) Had pre op today. I am scared too. But quality of life will be so much better after.

Think of being able to look forward to a night out without thinking oh no was that scratch in my throat the start of tonsillitis hell?

All the best. Get lots of bread ready to eat toast. Oh and come back and tell me EVRYTHING!!! x

giraffesCantZumba · 16/06/2011 22:22

So glad have read this.

microserf apart from not getting tonsillitis did you notice any difference? I am often lethergic and need lots of sleep and low grade illness.

hellospoon · 16/06/2011 22:33

Hi giraffes I was going to sleep but iv just thrown up twice out of worry! Iv just taken my anxiety pills so hopefully they will kick in soon!

I will come back tomorrow after my op and tell u everything.

Like u I am also always very tired and lethargic, tonsillitis knocks me for six every month so I am going to be glad they are gone.

Do u have dc? Have u made arrangements for them?

OP posts:
giraffesCantZumba · 16/06/2011 22:52

No dc - multiple MCs, thats anoter story! But I am a nanny, hoping to go back after a week, but depends. Feel ill just now - so hope its not the t word!

From my last op I have to say the anxiety was worse than the experience.

I've ha it once a month too. Glad I hae you as my tonsillectomy buddy! You deffinety gettinghome? Im staying in overnight.

hellospoon · 17/06/2011 09:17

I am staying overnight to! Not sure what time I will be out tomorrow! Atleast I have mumsnet on my phone to keep my company!

Well I got a little bit of sleep last night! Just getting up to pack my bag and have some toast/water! Yum! I have to be there at 1130.. Eek very nervous!

did u get the pm I sent back to u? It said success twice but I'm not convinced!

I can understand you being scared...I probably would be too...

All I can say is try and think of the benefits!

giraffesCantZumba · 17/06/2011 12:43

Glad you didn't back out! Just think of how good your life will be now you're tonsil-free. Personally, I don't mind general anaesthetics, it's rather blissful. It's the waking up afters that can be hellish :o.

Hope the op went okay and you're recovering.

hellospoon · 17/06/2011 12:53

Hi all, am currently sat on my hospital bed waiting for my op. The doctors have just been to say that they are doing it at 2.30ish! God I'm STARVING! Can't drink at the minute either.

I'm all out of sorts as iv not had a brew this morning!

Well I will be back tonight/tomorrow to give giraffe the gory details.

its my turn to freak out now! Oh god!

A1980 · 19/06/2011 00:18

You're an adult, you've been through child birth, you'll be fine.

Don't cancel... no wonder waiting lists are so long if people keep doing that.

expatinscotland · 19/06/2011 00:55

My FIL had to cancel a knee replacement last month. Oh god, things went terribly wrong with his diabetes and high blood pressure about a week before and he wound up in hospital for a fortnight chucking up everything he tried to eat, hooked up to all manner of drips with a raging kidney infection. The diabetes wing where he was actually contacted the department about the cancellation. There was no other way to go.

Now he's back on the wait list and it's 18 months long. He's in agony with his knee, worn down with arthritis after so many years of manual labour, so has put himself on the wait list we just have to hope for the best.

Please don't cancel unless it's circumstances like this where an operation is literally not possible because you are otherwise so ill.

giraffesCantZumba · 19/06/2011 01:03

The op didn't cancel - she has had the op and is now home :)

I am not going to cancel just having a wee panic - especially about asthma/chect pain post op. Want it to be all over with now!

giraffesCantZumba · 19/06/2011 01:04

op meaning both original poster and operation

expatinscotland · 19/06/2011 01:15

yeah, have followed OP. so glad she went for it. her life will now be much better.

but you go for it, too.

so worth it. don't cancel except it there's no other way, like poor FIL, how he suffers, but there was really no alternative for him. he was in hospital even for this birthday.

microserf · 19/06/2011 09:01

sorry i didn't see the message for me until today from giraffescantZumba

yes, i really did notice the difference and felt much better. i was kind of low level sick a lot. i had the op in spring, but i remember noticing the following winter that i wasn't as low and sick as i normally was. big quality of life difference.

well done OP, hope you feel better soon. and giraffescantZumba, hope you feel better about the op as well.

hellospoon · 19/06/2011 10:14

Hi all!

Well I got home yesterday from hospital. Had a few complications, my throat and tongue was really swollen I could breath so had steroids and a air mask for a few hours. The doc came to see me and said my tonsils were just bags of infection when he cut them open, and the worst he had seen in many years! Apparently I have a funny shaped dangly bit at the back of my throat!

Woke up yesterday total agony, ate some bits which I think really helped. Slept like a log last night and have just woken up! I feel ok today just abit tender

The worst part is the sides of my mouth that were cut open by the clamps/gags they are really sore. Oh and my ears keep popping and knocking my balance out!

Glad I went ahead and did it! Let's just hope for a speedy recovery!
