To wonder why there's so many threads taking the mick out of the middles classes, yet one look on the baby name thread makes me vomit

Actually Rihanna is an Arabic name originally, I think it means sweet Basil. I was seriously considering a couple of weeks ago for my LO but unfortunately the association with the pop star put me off. It is a lovely name otherwise.

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 16/06/2011 13:44

I have been inspired by this trhead

I am going to call my next baby

Courtney-Fatfingers-Sorry

What, never chickens? Not even a crappy Saturday job when you were 16?

Don't mean this as an insult at all, just genuinely curious. I don't think I've met anyone who has never held a job?

BulletWithAName · 16/06/2011 14:35

I've never had a job either Blush

LolaRennt · 16/06/2011 14:39

SO did you move in with Dp straight out of your parents? Don't answer if I am being rude, you have no need to blush anyway!

spudulika · 16/06/2011 14:43

"i overheard a man calling his little twin boys the other day

Good job I didn't have twins. I would have been tempted to call them Sid and Nancy. As long as they'd been a boy or a girl of course - I'm not that cruel!

BulletWithAName · 16/06/2011 14:43

I got pregnant in college, so I moved in with DP, dropped out (which I wish I'd never done) and he got a full time job. I was looking for a part-time job whilst I was at college though, I used to go out twice a week round all the shops to hand out CV's but I only ever had one interview!

Kallista · 16/06/2011 14:59

Bullet, i only had 4 gcse's but got an HCA job at the first care home i walked into.
V hard work but flexible hours and I enjoyed it, did qualifications while i was there then got bursary for nurse training.
Or try a temp agency - my sister worked in banks, factories, shops and offices.
Just look very smart, friendly and nice.

BulletWithAName · 16/06/2011 15:12

I'm thinking of going back when both my children are at school full-time to do an access course for a degree...in what, I don't know!

clitorisorclitoraint · 16/06/2011 15:16

I agree with the OP. I have seen hundreds of threads in which people vehemently deny being middle class or even that such a class exists...

....then they merrily post on Boden threads.

Just admit it ffs!

Firawla · 16/06/2011 15:52

ldnmummy yeah i like rihanna too its a nice name, and shiraz is a normal name too which someone else was taking as a joke name earlier in the thread..

smashinghairday · 16/06/2011 15:58

Whoever says the MC don't drive 4x4's is talking tommyrot.

How else do we tow the horse trailer? Hmm

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 16/06/2011 15:58

Oh, well I've worked crappy part time student jobs. But I've ever worked full time in paid employment. I am a kept woman

GabbyLoggon · 16/06/2011 16:03

the good thing about MN is that everyone is welcome here. Even if they get
a scalping; they should ride it out and wait for better times

BulletWithAName · 16/06/2011 16:50

Me too Chickens Grin

Goldenbear · 16/06/2011 16:53

OP,can you get a 'first' for a Masters degree essay, IME it is Pass, Fail or distinction?

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 16/06/2011 16:59

Golden I think the First the OP refers to must have been for her BA/BSc(whatever that was in).

Her magnum opus - this indepth piece on Bugaboos and babynames and how money has nothing to do with class - is for her Masters. Apparently.

mollymole · 16/06/2011 16:59

NO you cannot get a First for a Masters
Fail/Pass/Distinction

and to Rooks 14
what do you want us to call our darling children

Kylie/K'Den/Maddison etc ???

LolaRennt · 16/06/2011 18:08

OP if money is nothing to do with class therefore we are wrong, why mention the price of bugaboos as though you felt it relevant? you aren't making much sence.

bullet chickens that all makes sense thanks for answering!

Bonsoir · 16/06/2011 18:12

There is nothing wrong with Florence or Felix, which are both mainstream names (they are hardly "out there" or unusual). Bertram is TTH.

NormanTebbit · 16/06/2011 18:15

"I named the triplets Pretensia, Intelligentsia, and Brainea." PMSL

I get a. bit fed up with all the little poppy, honey, sugargumdrop, names. But I live in a two bed flat so what do I know.

NormanTebbit · 16/06/2011 18:16

And I don't think bugaboos are middle class. Stokke seems all the rage round ere.

5DollarShake · 17/06/2011 01:29

He he TheBride

OP - you don't really think you're uncovering some heretofore unknown truth by revealing that class often has zero to do with money do you...? Hmm

I do get what you're saying - I just think the hyperbolic use of 'vomit' was a tad unnecessary, plus - you are just using thus thread as an excuse to take yet another pop at the middle class. Not that we can't take it, of course. Grin

Has it ever occurred to some people that other people taking pops at the middle class aren't middle-class people denying their roots, but working or upper class people? Hmm

This is a huge board, with people from every imaginable walk - and class - of life. [/states blindingly obvious]

And sorry for the over-use of Hmm but really...
