I need opinions asap!

I have painted the outside of my front door a new blue colour. I was planning to paint the inside of the front door white. However, DP has just chipped in that this is stupid, the whole door must be blue. My thoughts are that when the door is closed white is brighter plus blue doesn't go with decor ... not hideous but white is neutral and blends in.

So should the front and back fo the door be the same colour or is it acceptable to have the inside only white?

Please give opinions!

Ours is red outside and white inside. You're entirely normal.

M0naLisa · 15/06/2011 15:02

Mine is glossed black outside and inside its the original dark wood colour that it was when we moved in. - it was this colour outside but i hated it so i painted it but it went more like light shade of the dark it was instead of the ebony. The council have just been last week to do the exterior wood and fencing and gate so when they asked about the door i said 'cant you do it black and they said 'yes' so now i have a lovely shiney black door - DH wants to change the number to number 10 - as it looks like 10 downing street Grin

GooGooGadget · 15/06/2011 15:02

My front door is red on the inside Blush DH did it.

However, I've got 2 front doors. A kind of airlock, if you will. The inside one is white.

Anyway, if I'd have thought it through, I'd have got him to do white inside.

LoveBeingAbleToNamechange · 15/06/2011 15:03

My door is blue outside and white inside!

bruffin · 15/06/2011 15:14

Blue outside, white inside.

Nixea · 15/06/2011 15:14

Blue outside, white inside here.

iwanttoseethezoo · 15/06/2011 15:14

Mine is brown outside and in, and no, it's not wooden (well, it's wood painted brown). Time to paint it white! White inside, deffo.

heleninahandcart · 15/06/2011 15:26

Green outside, inside cream to match hall.

Now you can argue over the outside edge of the door. Should also be the outside colour Wink

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 15/06/2011 15:48

Feeling the love here girls ..... not least because you almost all agree with me thank goodness!

So inside will be white, husband will be agreeing and admitting his stupidity whilst giving me a foot massage tonight!

There aren't many AIBU threads where the consensus is 100% in the OP's favour!

ddubsgirl · 15/06/2011 15:53

ours is wood and not allowed to paint it :/

IwanttobeShirleyValentine · 15/06/2011 15:53

We have a UPVC door with real 1980's leaf design crappy glass in!! Truely vile.

Sorry i am being no help.

If i was to have a nice front door to paint - the inside would have to blend in with the interior design. So White most likely.

ddubsgirl · 15/06/2011 15:54

but yes white on inside is fine, our old front door was white inside, red outside

queenbathsheba · 15/06/2011 15:59

Mine is glossed in black outside and off white satin inside. Can't imagine having black gloss inside.

If you are painting the door tell your DH you'll have it the way you want it.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2011 15:59

Mine's blue outside, white inside. Back door is green outside, white inside.

Remember to paint the edges of the door the same colour as the outside.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2011 16:00

The only time you'd have it all one colour is if it was solid wood, IMO.

Fimbo · 15/06/2011 16:03

Although ours is white on the inside. I am now thinking about our old house. It was built in the 1800's and had a large vestibule with a big front door and then a half glass white door through to the hallway. I am thinking the front door was painted all the one colour inside and out. Will need to ask dh.

firemansamantha · 15/06/2011 16:06

BLue outside and white in here.

firemansamantha · 15/06/2011 16:06

Ours is solid wood with glass panes.

suiledonne · 15/06/2011 16:08

Mine is dark green inside and out - sorry to go against the general consensus here.

In my defence though it is a rented house so it was like that when we got here. Also the hallway is ridiculously large with wooden skirting and inner doors (pine maybe?) and pale laminate flooring and no furniture so the green looks fine.

2rebecca · 15/06/2011 16:11

Our old door was red outside, white inside to match interior woodwork. We recently go a new door which is stained dark brown, having it partly stained white would have cost more plus I like the look of stained wood.
If painted then 2 colours is fairly standard. Our porch is much darker now the inside of door isn't gloss white, I love the reflective qualities of white gloss.

Catsu · 15/06/2011 16:12

Just sent DS2 to check what colour mine is on the inside!!
Its red outside and white inside. Looks like white inside is the norm!

bonkers20 · 15/06/2011 16:15

Ours is white on the inside and the outside! If your DH needs to live in a world where the inside and outside of the door is the same colour the he may move in with us. Is he dishy?

Blatherskite · 15/06/2011 16:33

Had a new one fitted yesterday - Lovely, bright red outside and nice, neautral white inside.

The salesman didn't seem to think this was unusual or wrong when I ordered it and he offered his opinion on most other things.

psiloveyou · 15/06/2011 16:40

Mine is brown outside, white inside to match the decor. Would look silly the same colour.
